Sponsored: Style Refresh with Starbucks for the Summer

starbucks iced coffee

I am a self-proclaimed coffee lover. If you don’t believe me just check out my bio on Twitter – it reads: “I love Chanel, coffee & chocolate.” There. It’s official. The only way I switch up my coffee is by temperature. When it’s cold out (or the A/C is on particularly high) I drink hot coffee. If it’s hot out then I’m opting for iced coffee. Since I live in California and we’ve been having great weather, I’ve already transitioned to iced coffee. And my iced coffee of choice? Starbucks – I have a gold card to prove it!

Now that I’ve updated my coffee game, it’s time for a “style refresh” for summer. I love switching out my closets when the seasons change because I get a clear ideal of what I need to update my wardrobe. Here are some things I do to update my look.

Wear A Lighter Fragrance
When the weather gets warmer I like to wear a lighter fragrance. I tend to like heavier scents like Chanel Allure and Coco Noir but once the temperature rises I switch to Chanel Beige or Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. I feel that heavier scents in hot weather weigh you down. I like to brighten things up with scents that are airy and fresh.

Protect Yourself
Sure, Coco Chanel made the tan chic but times are different now. I’m sure the skin police are making sure that you are wearing sunscreen year-round but when the weather is warmer, chances are you’re spending more time outside. With all the additional sun exposure it’s always a good idea to wear stronger sunscreen and to remember to re-apply. I’m also a big fan of wearing really light-weight cotton or linen long-sleeve shirts in the summer. My newest sunny style statement is a large-brimmed straw hat – just remember to keep it simple as Coco Chanel would have.

white

Wear White to Show Off Your Tan
Just because you have to protect your skin doesn’t mean you can’t have a season-appropriate tan. There are lots of products on the market to mimic a natural glow – just stay away from those tanning beds. Once you have your (faux) natural glow, wearing white is the best way to make the biggest impact. No other color complements a tan the way white does.

brights

Bright Colors on My Nails and Lips
I know, it all goes back to the tan, right? But it’s true. Bold bright colors that evoke the sea and flowers are perfect for summer. Chanel’s current Summer 2013 butterfly-inspired collection is a perfect example. I love an orange coral color for nails and a bright pink lip. Perfect colors to take you from the beach to dinner.

chanel red flats

Red Shoes Are Perfect Any Time of Year
I have a thing for red shoes. Since I wear so many neutral colors – mainly black and white with some beige, grey and blue denim thrown in – I like to add a pop of color and my color of choice is usually red. And it comes in the form of my shoes. This summer I decided to break out my new Chanel red flats – they go perfectly with my cropped white jeans.

No look would be complete if you’re looking like a hot sweaty mess. So stay cool with your Starbucks® Iced Coffee beverage of choice – I know I will!
