Mila Kunis in Chanel Beauté

Mila Kunis is all grown up.  I remember thinking she was so pretty as Jackie on That ’70s Show and it’s nice to see her as a young woman with a great career ahead of her.  The Black Swan co-star was at the People’s Choice Awards in Chanel Beauté.

CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Rachel Goodwin worked with Mila Kunis at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 5th. Here’s how Rachel go Mila’s smoky, sophisticated red carpet look…

I wanted Mila’s makeup to be sophisticated and sultry like the soft lines and colour of her dress. I accentuated her incredible eyes with a very soft earth-tone smoky eye. I started by blending CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Winter Nights, and finishing it with CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Torrent, a khaki shimmer, on her upper eyelid. I blended a smoky quartz pencil along the inner bottom eye for a bit more intensity.  I kept the rest of her face very understated with soft peach cream blush, and a flesh toned gloss, CHANEL Rouge Allure Gloss in Insouciance.

I love the look of neutral lips and I think I may have to get Insouciance as my new go-to lipgloss.

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2011 Paris-Byzance Beauty

The theme of the collection, Paris-Byzance is a great inspiration on it’s own. The links and associations with Chanel are rich and plenty.  Karl gave Sam (McKnight) and me a sketch giving us a rough idea of the direction he wanted for the look, from then the tone was set.  Karl also showed us the world-famous mosaic portrait of Theodora, the Empress of the Byzantine Empire Mosaic from the Saint-Vital de Ravenne Basilica, which very naturally became the inspiration for the show’s makeup. The portrait gave me a focus point : the red eye shadow/liner that she wears on the arch of her eyebrows. This look is all about light and rich textures. The choreography between gold, bronze, black and red can be easily personalized according to the desires of each woman.

- Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup

Chanel Spring 2011 Makeup Collection: Les Perles de Chanel

When I think of Chanel, a few things immediately come to mind: black/white, camelias, the quilted 2.55 handbag, and of course – pearls – lots of them.  Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel believed the light-reflecting property of pearls enhanced a woman’s natural beauty by bringing a delicate luminosity to her skin.  For Spring 2011, Peter Philips was inspired by Coco Chanel’s love of pearls and so he created Les Perles de Chanel.

We got a preview of the makeup collection during the Spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear show but now we have a full look at all the products.  I especially love Le Vernis Black Pearl, the Glossimer in Aragonite, the Shimmering Grey eyeliner and the eyeshadows.  Les Perles de Chanel will be available in department stores, Chanel boutiques and on Chanel.com in January 2011.

Chanel Introduces Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss

CHANEL INTRODUCES ROUGE ALLURE EXTRAIT DE GLOSS

Inspired by the classic Chanel Rouge Allure range of lipstick, Chanel has released Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss – a “new generation” of lip gloss.  The Extrait de Gloss offers extremely rich color, intense shine, and a smooth, silky texture that feels luxurious and looks dramatic.  I’m a big fan of lip gloss and I had a chance to try this at the makeup counter.  It wasn’t sticky at all and I loved the shine – it gave a nice finish to the look.  Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss is available in nine shades and can be purchased at Chanel makeup counters and online for $32.

The Chanel Smoky Eye: Get the Look

One of the most popular beauty looks for eyes is the sexy, smoldering smokey eye. This look comes in all colors now, but the mother of smokey eyes is black and grey.  Chanel has released a how-to face chart so that you can achieve this classic look without the help of a beauty entourage.  In four easy steps (and presumably Chanel cosmetics) you can go from blah to glam.  Only three Chanel cosmetics are used to get this look – Ombres Contraste Duo in Gris/Subtil, Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir, and Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Ébène.

Chanel Limited Edition Les Deux Lèvres Scintillantesles Glossimer Duo

Chanel is gearing up for holiday with limited edition beauty sets.  One of my favorites is Les Deux Lèvres Scintillantesles Glossimer Duo set.  Featuring the signature full-size glossimers in ultra-flattering rose-toned shades in exclusive Muscat and best-selling Wild Rose.  The limited edition set also includes a mini Precision Lip Definer in Nude and it all comes packaged in a chic makeup bag making this set perfect for travel.  The set is available online for $51 and would make a great gift for any Chanel fan or any woman that loves beauty products.

Chanel 2011 Spring/Summer Ready to Wear Beauty

Karl Lagerfeld showed me a sketch he had drawn of a girl with smoky eyes, so it was clear that we would put the focus on the eyes for this show. The inspiration for the color came from the black-white-green French garden that was recreated in the Grand Palais, from the glow that we can find in black, grey and white pearls, and the enamel that Karl integrated into the costume jewelry. I created deep, dark smoky eyes on a luminous fresh face with tinted, dewy lips. Nails were graphic and strong, and a thin black line was drawn in the hair.

- Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup

The beauty as the Chanel Spring-Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear show will no doubt be oft-imitated as it was lovely.  Dark charcoal smokey eyes was the highlight of a seductive look that featured an otherwise natural face.  Lips had a hint of blush that was just a few shades deeper than natural lip color.  Hair was straight and pulled back tight with center and side parts accentuated with a thin straight black line drawn with eyeliner.  The nails always steal the show and Black Pearl looks like it will be a color that will surely be duplicated by mass market nail polish companies.  I love the black gunmetal look of it and it really does look like the beautiful iridescent grey of Tahitian black pearls.  On their toes, models wore Pearl Drop, a white pearly color.  Though Pearl Drop is nice, Black Pearl is definitely on my wish list for spring.

Peter used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks:

Skin prepared with HYDRAMAX + ACTIVE Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin

The Complexion: PRO LUMIÈRE Professional Finish Makeup SPF 15
POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE Natural Finish Loose Powder
ÉCLAT LUMIÈRE Highlighter Face Pen

The Cheeks: JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush in Espiègle (Spring 2011 Makeup Collection, available January 2011)
