Chanel Spring-Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear

Feminine. Gorgeous. Frayed. The Chanel Spring-Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection is an exercise of beautiful decay. Fabrics were frayed and had a look of wear and tear that added an edge to the otherwise frilly pieces. A color palette of the iconic Chanel black and white with splashes of pastels adorned an otherwise black-scale French garden set at the Grand Palais in Paris.  An eighty-piece orchestra accompanied the models as they sashayed to the music of Björk, the Verve, and John “007″ Barry.

The traditional Chanel suit was updated with a few twists: 3/4 sleeve and short sleeve swing coats, large lapels and short shorts instead of skirts. The shorts were very tiny and I wonder if real women can pull them off. To me, they seem like they would only look good on supermodels who are super skinny and have legs that go on for days. Many of the looks were embellished with flowers, feathers and/or lace making the looks ultra-feminine and etheral. One of the most exciting parts of the apparel collection was Chanel for bébé – a little boy walking hand-in-hand with a male model donning a Chanel jacket. No official word, but maybe this is a hint at a children’s collection to come.

As is always the case for me, the accessories stole the show. My mouth literally watered as I went through the detail shots of the shoe. Uncle Karl never forgets about the dainty digits and his gloves for this collection were awesome. From zippered to cut out, from floral to metal mesh – the gloves in this collection were stunning. The costume jewelry included usual suspects like pearl strands and cuffs but also included a lot of metal chain work with multiple strands. Clear chunky bangle bracelets with pastel colored stripes were fun way to add color to monochrome outfits.

The quilted bags were gorgeous and one of my absolute favorites was the oversize clutch with oversize quilting. Available in several colors, my desire for this bag is only second to my desire for a classic 2.55. The very best accessory totally stole the show – and it was the most unique one of its kind that I have ever seen. A model walked the runway with an oversize umbrella that was shaped like a hat – so simple, yet so GENIUS! This umbrella is easily the best umbrella ever created.  I don’t have much to say about the shoes (gasp!) because I didn’t like them :(

Peter Philips always does a wonderful job of translating Karl Lagerfeld’s sketches into actual looks. A neutral face was highlighted by a very dark smokey eye, the color echoing the black-scale garden set. Hair was straight and pulled back with side or center parts with all parts having a black line drawn in giving us a new use for black pencil eyeliner. Nails were painted in what looked like a dark grey gunmetal color called Black Pearl. More details to come on the Beauté collection.

Les Tentations De Chanel Holiday 2010 Makeup Collection

Chanel‘s holiday 2010 makeup collection created by Peter Philips, Les Tentations de Chanel, is hitting makeup counters this month. Meaning “the temptations” the collection will definitely entice you – and make you look enticing – just in time for the holiday season. Composed of rich browns and pinks, the collection is warm and universally flattering – think smoldering eyes and flushed lips and cheeks. The colors are all very pretty though I don’t foresee the new Le Vernis color, Pulsion, creating the stir that Jade and Paradoxal have in the past.

Read on for details on the collection from Chanel…

LES TENTATIONS DE CHANEL offers a sumptuous collection of tempting chocolates and fuchsias for the holiday season. Warm, vibrant tones punctuated with pops of festive color create effects that are at once charming and sensuous.

Tentation Cuivré, a special-edition shadow quartet from Europe, brings dramatic sparkle and new seduction to the eyes. Rich brown and copper shades are tempered with soft, flirty pink and tender beige tones. $56.00

Water-light fluid formula glides on for a long-lasting veil of shimmering color, now in Splash, a soft, smoky pewter. $32.00

Imbued with scintillating shimmer and intense shine, new holiday shades of LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES Glossimer — Charming, a delicate pink; Pleasing, a rich bronze; and Pink Pulsion, a dramatic fuchsia — lend warm, brilliant color to lips. $27.00

This instant modern classic lip color arrives in two new shades: Magnolia, a soft pink, and Patchouli, a subtle copper. $30.00

Fuchsia has never looked so feminine, swept softly over cheeks. Complementing all skin tones: Tweed Fuchsia, the ideal finish to a holiday-perfect look. $45.00

Nails polished with LE VERNIS Nail Colour in new Pulsion, a brilliant shock of deep pink, echo the sumptuous tone of the holidays. $23.00

Chanel Soho Exclusives

To commemorate the re-opening of the Chanel Soho Boutique, Chanel not only released a Beauté collection, but also released exclusive footwear, leather goods and ready to wear pieces. The ready to wear pieces include a lambskin and “fantasy fur” coat featuring Crystal Renn in a shot made famous because her famous body was cropped out.  (I personally don’t think it was a big deal – I prefer cropping to photo shop any day).  The leather goods are handbags of different shades and sizes such as metallic python (in brown, red and light grey), black calfskin and caviar (in black and red). The calfskin bags feature a tweed lining, and all the bags have a “CHANEL Soho 2010” signature hidden inside – just to make it official. My favorite of the bunch is the footwear, especially the red python classic ballerina and the weekender boot made of black calfskin and python. Those boots were definitely made for stomping all weekend long in your favorite city. Take a look at the full collection below. To purchase, please visit the Chanel Soho Boutique at 139 Spring Street, 212-334-0055 or email SoHo2010Exclusives@chanelusa.com.

Emma Stone in Chanel Beauté at the Easy A Premiere

Chanel celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin created the Beauté look for Emma Stone for the Easy A premier.  The look was pretty, age appropriate and complimented Emma’s ensemble without being too matchy-matchy.  Read on for Rachel Goodwin’s inspiration in coming up with the makeup look and her tips on how to achieve the same look…

“Emma’s make up was colour with sophistication, I played up her eyes with a bright shimmering teal pencil for a unexpected twist on a classic shape.”

How To:

“I used CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Coffee Bean on the upper eye, and kept the rest of her make up simple and monochromatic to keep the focus about her eyes. On her skin I applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Fluid Makeup mixed with CHANEL Sublimage Fluid to make sure to still see her amazing freckles. I then defined her cheekbones with Soleil Tan de CHANEL Bronzing Makeup Base instead of blush, for warm glowing cheeks. On her lips I blended CHANEL Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Instinctive with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Lip Care.”

Chanel Soho Story Collection

For me, SoHo is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city… I love the tension and energy this creates.

-Peter Philips

To commemorate the re-opening of the Chanel Soho Boutique, and just in time for New York Fashion Week, Peter Philips created the Soho Story Collection features feminine pinks juxtaposed with industrial metallics.  The collection includes a palette inspired by pop art with the letters SOHO stamped in the powder.  One swipe of all 4 shades gives you a healthy, natural glow.  From nails to lips, the Soho Story Collection covers all bases.  Peter Philips explained,

I had a specific girl in mind who is both hard and soft. A girl who discovers a new city, a new life.” adds Peter Philips. “This is a very special kind of New York woman.  She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city.

The full collection consists of: Soho de Chanel ($65.00), Quadra Eye Shadow in Stupendous, ($56.00), Rouge Coco in Stunning, ($30.00), Rouge Allure Laque in Stunt, ($32.00), Glossimer in Star, ($27.00), Le Vernis in Steel, ($23.00), Le Vernis in Strong, ($23.00).  Chanel’s Soho Story collection will be available on chanel.com on September 7th and September 10th at the SoHo Boutique (Fashion’s Night Out).

Peter Philips on the Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Haute Couture Red Lip

chanel fall/winter 2010-2011 haute couture beauty
The Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 Haute Couture show featured very simple makeup with a striking red lip. This is the look Coco Chanel herself preferred so it should come as no surprise that it showed on on the runway. Also, Chanel recently released its Rouge Coco line of lipsticks in their attempt to “bring lipstick back” and what better way than to feature it on the runway? See the Global Creative Director for Chanel talk about what inspired the faces on the runway…

Chanel 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture Beauty

Chanel 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture Beauty

On Tuesday, Chanel had its 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais in Paris with an “8-ton, 40-foot-tall golden lion, [with] its paw perched on an enormous pearl” serving as the backdrop. (WWD). The beauty at the show was very classic and simple:  soft eyes and cheeks with a strong red lip with nails to match.  I think it’s clean look for fall where makeup can tend to get heavy.  The overall look is very light but warm enough for the cold months.

Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks at the 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture runway show in Paris:

PRO LUMIÈRE Professional Finish Makeup
POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE Natural Finish Loose Powder
ÉCLAT LUMIÈRE Highlighter Face Pen

LES 4 OMBRES Quadra Eye Shadow in Enigma

LE CRAYON LÈVRES Precision Lip Definer in Carmin
ROUGE COCO Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Rivoli

LE VERNIS Nail Colour in Rouge Fatal (launching in October 2010)

Chanel Fall 2010 Beauty Collection – A Closer Look

Last week I posted images from the Chanel Fall 2010 makeup collection.  Today, I received images giving a closer look at some of the new items in the collection.  I’m very excited about paradoxal – it seems to be a bit of a paradox -it’s a mellow color yet very vibrant at the same time.  I can’t wait for it to come out so I can add it to my collection of Le Vernis Nail Colours.

Buying Into the Chanel Fantasy: Chanel’s Facebook Campaign

It used to be that to find info on Chanel, you could only visit Chanel.com – and the info and images you would find there would be very limited.  With the growing popularity of social media, Chanel has gone from being elusive to being more accessible online.

For its recent Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour launch, Chanel released an interactive media campaign on Facebook.  Chanel fans can learn about the history of Chanel lipstick, see campaign images and behind the scenes videos and allow fans to send virtual Chanel buttons to each other.

For a brand who used to cater to its older (ie, monied) clientele, Chanel is making attempts at reaching a younger audience with campaigns such as the Facebook Rouge Coco virtual buttons.  Why would Chanel change things up so much?

I think Chanel is realizing that Chanel fans start young and need to feel like they can buy into the Chanel fantasy.  Giving prospective customers the tools to interact with the brand online is one way of building brand loyalty amongst a younger customer base.

Facebook is just one of many new tools that Chanel is using to reach customers using technology.  Next, I’ll discuss the growing number of apps, podcasts and media campaigns they are using to get potential shoppers to buy into the Chanel fantasy.

Les Fidèles De Chanel: Poppy Delevingne’s Summer Travel Essentials

Les Fidèles De Chanel, or “the faithful ones” are girls about town that act as modern-day Chanel ambassadors. One of Fidèles is Poppy Delevingne, British socialite and model. Her Summer Travel Essentials are perfect for a day at the beach.

I’m drooling over the shades and the beach towel/tote bag set. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I’m available, ready and willing to be one of Les Fidèles De Chanel…just say the word Karl and we’re good to go!
