More Images & Video of the Chanel Mademoiselle Bag Campaign Featuring Blake Lively

More shots of the Mademoiselle bag ad campaign, featuring Blake Lively, have been revealed. The 3 new photos show Blake with three different bags – one black Mademoiselle bag, one light blue (or grey?) Mademoiselle bag, and the third looks like either a small clutch or wallet.  All the photos are taken on the legendary staircase at 31 Rue Cambon.  These photos are just as lovely as the first three we saw last week.  What do you think?  Which do you like better?

There’s also a short product video that just features the bag – no Blake Lively – I guess they save the longer product films with actresses for their fragrance campaigns.  Nonetheless, the video does a nice job of showing us the beautiful quality and details of the Mademoiselle bag – while also reminding you of the other Chanel products you can fill your bag with.

Blake Lively for Chanel Mademoiselle – Ads & Behind the Scenes

Earlier this week we showed you the first ad image that was shown online of Blake Lively in the Chanel Mademoiselle handbag campaign.  Today, Chanel News released behind the scenes images and The Cut showed two more ad images.  The other ad images feature bags in other colors and Blake Lively looks gorgeous in them. It looks like my hunch was right and Karl Lagerfeld shot the ad on the staircase at 31 Rue Cambon.  What a lucky girl! Blake is the face of Chanel handbags AND she got to see the legendary staircase (and probably the apartment too!).

I must say though, the behind the scenes photos are just as beautiful. Shot in black and white, I think they are strong enough to be ads as well – in some ways I prefer them.  What do you think?

Blake Lively in the Chanel Mademoiselle Handbag Campaign

Chanel “It Girl” of the moment, Blake Lively, is the face of the new Chanel Mademoiselle handbag campaign. This past weekend, Lively hosted a dinner to launch the new handbag line and now images from the ad campaign will start surfacing in magazines this week through June.

I like the ad, Blake Lively is a beautiful woman so Karl Lagerfeld had a relatively easy job photographing her. I love the mirrored background – the panels of the mirror are reminiscent of the mirrored staircase at 31 Rue Cambon (maybe it was even shot there?). The ad is simple and the red Mademoiselle handbag really stands out – a nice addition to an already excellent collection of handbags.

Blake Lively Hosts Chanel Mademoiselle Dinner in Paris

Blake Lively Hosts Chanel Mademoiselle Dinner in Paris

So, the rumors weren’t true…Blake Lively can’t attend the Chanel Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear show in Paris because of a scheduling conflict with the Gossip Girl shooting schedule – not because she thinks celebrities shouldn’t sit front row.  Whew!

Since she couldn’t make it to the show, Blake Lively hosted a dinner in Paris at the Chanel couture salon, complete with performance by Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine.  A pink rose décor and three course meal by  a two-star Michelin chef set the scene for the who’s who of fashion elite including Lou Doillon, Karen Elson, Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee Shaffer, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Chanel spokespeople Anna Mouglalis (bags, fine jewelry and watches), Elisa Sednaoui (glasses) and Chanel’s brand ambassadors Leigh Lezark, Caroline Sieber.

It sounds like it was a lovely event.  Dear Chanel, please bring on some blog ambassadors and please let moi be one!

Green With Envy! Nicole Richie and her Vintage Chanel Bag Collection

Nicole Richie is Lucky Magazine‘s February cover girl which hits newsstands on January 11th.  In it she dishes about her vintage Chanel bags…when asked how many vintage bags she had she said:  “That’s not a fair question! Okay, 30, but I stole a lot of them from my mom!…I’m a huge collector of vintage Chanel bags. My mom has given me a lot of the ones she had in the ’70s.”

I’m so jealous!! I would love to see the whole collection!

Blake Lively – The Face of Chanel Mademoiselle Bags

Last month, we heard rumors about Blake Lively taking on the role of brand ambassador for a Chanel handbag line.  We speculated that it may be for the Chanel Coco Cocoon collection with Blake following in the footsteps of Lily Allen and Vanessa Paradis.  Instead, WWD has just reported that Blake Lively is the face of a new line of Chanel handbags – the Mademoiselle bag.

First seen in the Chanel 2010/2011 Cruise show, the Mademoiselle bag is an oblong shaped bag featuring the brand’s signature quilting, chain strap and double-C logo.  Available in an array of colors and fabrics (cloth jersey, lambskin, calfskin, alligator, satin and shagreen), the bag retails for $2,000 – $3,300 for base ranges and over $30,000 for exotic skins.

Karl shot the campaign in Paris at the historic 31 Rue Cambon on the storied Chanel mirrored staircase that Mademoiselle herself would sit and watch her collection shows.  When asked why he chose Blake Lively, Karl stated:  “She’s full of life…She’s a kind of American dream girl…I think she will become a great actress.”

The ads for the new Chanel Mademoiselle bags will begin to surface in April 2011 magazines – I can’t wait to see the campaign!

    • Karl says who he’d like to take his place at Chanel via WWD:

In an interview in Numero’s November issue, Lagerfeld replied: “I have a contract for life so it all depends on who I would like to hand it to. At the moment I’d say Haider Ackermann.” Lagerfeld has recently been enamored of Ackermann’s fashions, and had invited him to attend the most recent Chanel show. Ackermann reacted by saying, “What can one possibly say to such a phrase?! Such a compliment! Honored I feel, how can one not be?! In all honesty tremendously, immensely touched especially coming from Monsieur Lagerfeld.”

The Secrets of the Handbag – Part 3

In the last part of my series on the Secrets of the Handbag exhibit (if I can’t get a hold of that fabulous video!) I’ve scanned the program that they were giving out to attendees.  The info details the seven steps to constructing the Chanel 2.55 handbag and the history of the bag.

Secrets of the Chanel Handbag – Part 2

The Secrets of the Chanel Handbag exhibit made its first stop in San Francisco this past weekend.  The first part of the exhibit explored the process of making a Chanel 2.55 handbag.  The other part of the exhibit highlighted vintage pieces.  When I heard that vintage pieces would be on view I was expecting a lot more than they actually had on display.

The vintage display was only in one of the store windows and featured two mannequins dressed from head-to-toe in vintage Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.  The pieces were amazing and my favorite by far were the clear/black rain boots with chain stirrup detail in the back – TO-DIE-FOR!  The gold quilted guitar case wasn’t so bad either.  Check out the photos below of the window displays and detail shots of the vintage Chanel pieces from the archive.
