Chanel J12 29mm Watch

The oft-imitated Chanel J12 watch is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year and to commemorate the occasion, Chanel has released a mini J12 that is 29mm in width.  I love this watch and it would look great on my very small wrists without overpowering it. Something tells me there won’t be anything “mini” about the price…

CHANEL J12 Marine Launch with Laird Hamilton

CHANEL J12 Marine Launch with Laird Hamilton

Over the weekend Chanel invited some fancy-pants people out to Montauk to celebrate the release of the lastest J12 Marine men’s watch.  Laird Hamilton, the new brand ambassador, is a professional surfer and married to professional volley ball player Gabrielle Reece.  “Like CHANEL’s newest brand ambassador, Laird Hamilton, CHANEL has allowed themselves to be swept away by the beauty of the waves, and has incorporated these elements into the design of the J12 Marine, the newest addition to CHANEL’s fine timepiece collection.”

The guests ““…dined on fresh seafood at wooden tables and then gathered around the fire pit for cocktails and smores.”  Can we say jealous?  And how about the surf boards?  I’ve always been to scared to try surfing but a Chanel surf board can easily sway me…

The event looks like it was awesome and though you may not think of Chanel when you think of surfing, Chanel always manages to have that magic touch that makes just about anything seem like it was meant to be paired with Chanel.  My only question is, where was my invitation to this? :)

Chanel 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture Review

The Chanel Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais was a grand spectacle complete with a forty-foot lion.  But even the lioness could not outshine the clothing and accessories that Uncle Karl designed.

The overall silhouette was a play on layers, length and shoulders.  Strong shoulders have been popular for a few seasons now, but the Chanel strong shoulder was different.  It’s very soft and round, but strong in the sense that it is exaggerated.  Almost all of the looks had the rounded, sculptural shoulder paired with a 3/4 length sleeve.  The looks that didn’t have the rounded shoulder were sleeveless and the models’ bare shoulders were reminiscent of the roundness of the sleeved jackets.

Lagerfeld also played with length in this collection.  From 3/4 sleeve jackets, to long blouses paired with cropped jackets, to-the-knee skirts and dresses to calf-length dresses and skirts.  Most of the hemlines were on the short side – even the formal dresses.

The color palette is one suited for fall – rich jewel tones like garnet, topaz, and sapphire paired with rich browns, camel and black.  Lush fabrics like warm tweeds paired with luxe fur; brocade fabric with rich beading and embroidery, dresses embellished with strings of pearls.  The overall look is very luxurious and rich – think ladies who lunch.

I must confess, the clothing was not my favorite this season.  I wasn’t a very big fan of the big rounded shoulders.  What stole the show for me was the accessories.  These boots were definitely made for walking – slouchy, ruched, metallic, beaded, and with the iconic black toe cap – every look had an ankle boot to match.

The accessories that had me drooling were the large chunky bangle bracelets – bejeweled with chains hanging and layered – the bracelets were the perfect match for the 3/4 sleeve and sleeveless looks.  Brooches and belt buckles had similar looks with chains dripping from them with lion heads at the center.  A collection certainly made to make you roar!

New CHANEL Fine Jewelry: Camélia Ajouré

The seeming simplicity of a masterpiece is sure proof of its grace. – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel

New CHANEL Fine Jewelry: Camélia Ajouré

Anyone familiar with the Chanel brand knows that the Camélia is one of the brands symbols because it was Coco Chanel’s favorite flower.  It is said that she was drawn to the flower’s simplicity – with neither scent or thorns – the Camélia’s beauty lies in its perfect order of petals.

Chanel has long had fine jewelry collections featuring the Camélia – one of my favorites being the gorgeous time pieces.  Now, Chanel introduces Camélia Ajouré – a new collection of striking fine jewelry – all with the Camélia motif.

New CHANEL Fine Jewelry: Camélia Ajouré

The pieces in the collection feature rings, cuffs, necklaces and earrings in 18K white gold and 18K yellow gold.  Some pieces are adorned with diamonds, while others in black onyx and white agate.  The most striking pieces feature black and white diamonds – swoon!  Most of the pieces are classical interpretations of the Camélia but there is one ring that is a bit more of an abstract design. One of my favorite designs is a “remix” of the infamous Chanel Comètes Necklace with a Camélia replacing the star and a singular diamond drop replacing the the 3 strands of diamonds.

All of the pieces are gorgeous but since they are fine jewelry they definitely don’t come cheap.  For now, I’ll have to settle for the costume jewelry but I can dream can’t I?

Chanel Shanghai Accessories

Chanel Paris-Shanghai Accessories

Chanel has Shanghai on the brain for 2010.  First there was the Chanel Shanghai boutique opening, then there was the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai collection.  We know Coco Chanel was infatuated with Shanghai and would have loved to have traveled there.  But I wonder if that was the only inspiration for the Chanel Shanghai collection – could it be that it was timed to coincide with the upcoming World’s Fair Expo in Shanghai in May, 2010.  Whatever the reason, the accessories are amazing!

After the success of the Chanel Paris-Moscou Matryoshka doll purse, Uncle Karl has created a similar purse for the Shanghai collection. The matching drop earrings are adorable – I wonder if he used these little ladies on any other accessories? Lagerfeld also reinterpreted the classic 2.55 bag with large sequined palletes in red and jade.

My other favorite bag is Chanel’s rendition of the classic takeout box – with leather chain strap and all!  The Chanel cuff is also especially beautiful and is reminiscent of Chinese pottery and vases.

This is just a little glimpse into the details of the collection and I can’t wait to see more!

“Lovely Chanel Gifts” Just in Time For Valentine’s Day

Chanel Set of 3 Enamel Brooches with Glass Pearls

Chanel Set of 3 Enamel Brooches with Glass Pearls

Chanel launched a site with an array of “Lovely Chanel Gifts” just in time for Valentine’s Day.  The site has a cute slot machine featuring all of the products that have a bit of a Valentine’s Day theme.    Karl must have tattoos on the brain because not only did he release Chanel temporary tattoos, but one of the earrings are inspired by the classic heart tattoos.  From heart charms on the quilted lambskin classic flap bags to enamel brooches and charms on chain necklaces, all of these gifts are a great way to profess one’s love (in fact, any Chanel gift is a great way to show some love).  The products are available at Chanel boutiques and you’ve got about a week to start dropping hints.

Chanel Fine Jewelry Catalog

Chanel Fine Jewelry Catalog

Chanel Fine Jewelry Catalog

I came home to find this beautiful catalog on my doorstep.  Coco Chanel was known for making costume jewelry fashionable, but her fine jewelry designs were ground-breaking and breath-taking.  Today, Chanel carries on the tradition by releasing gorgeous collections of diamonds, platinum and pearls – oh my!  These pieces are far beyond my budget but at least I have this comprehensive catalog with beautiful photographs to flip through and day dream.  Chanel Fine Jewelry can be found at select Chanel boutiques, including the Chanel Ultra-Luxe Boutique at the Encore in Las Vegas.
