Chanel Cruise 2011/12 Show Invitation

Next week, on May 9th, the Chanel Cruise 2011/12 collection will set sail at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, Cap d’Antibes, in France. I can’t wait to see what it will look like! The black and white lifesaver from the invitation reminds me of the 2009 Chanel Cruise collection shown in Miami.

Katy Perry in Chanel Track Suit

katy perry wearing chanel tracksuitKaty Perry flew the friendly skies in a beige Chanel track suit from the 2011 spring/summer collection.  She paired the track suit with Marc by Marc Jacobs mouse flats and a Chanel 2.55 bag.  It’s a very comfy look – I’m a bit jealous.  I love sweatpants and it doesn’t get better than Chanel sweatpants.  I do have one pet peeve though… I’m not so into wearing sweatpants in public unless you are on your way to the gym.  Does the fact that they’re Chanel sweatpants make it ok?  It was a 15 hour flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne and it is afterall, Chanel, so I’ll let this one slide ;)

First News: Chanel Cruise Collection Film

Freja Beha Erichson, Lady Amanda Harlech, Anna Mouglalis and Kristen McMenamy

The Chanel Cruise show will set sail on May 9th and will show in Antibes, a resort town on the Côte d’Azur, located between Cannes and Nice. To coincide with the collection, Karl is making a movie featuring some of his ladies du jour including Freja Beha Erichson, Lady Amanda Harlech, Anna Mouglalis and Kristen McMenamy.   The movie will be shot on location in Monaco and other hot spots in the South of France.  I’m a bit surprised that this cruise collection will also be centered around the Côte d’Azur because the last Cruise collection was as well.  I’m sure it will have a different feel – I’m really curious to see how Karl will switch it up.

Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012

The Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012 show was earlier today in Paris.  Photos are surfacing online.  I’m getting images together to get a review up but in the mean time maybe this will keep you occupied…

Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012 Ready-to-Wear Show Invitation

Two days to go! Grand Palais, Paris, March 8th.

I wonder what the show will be like. I can’t quite tell what the image on the invite is, first I thought it was a gauzy curtain with fur rugs on the floor, then I looked again and thought it was a look into the woods with a hazy/foggy atmosphere. It’s hard to tell as the image is quite abstract – we shall see!

Chanel Paris-Byzance Look Book Shot in Ravenna, Italy

“It’s all about mosaics,” said Lagerfeld, who traveled to Ravenna, Italy, to view the intricate artworks from the fifth and sixth centuries that adorn its churches and monuments. “I thought it was an influence that could be very much Chanel,” he said. “It’s also about a spirit.”

-WWD

In the 6th Century, Ravenna was the “westernmost pillar of the Byzantine Empire.” (Rick Steves, Ravenna: Italy’s Byzantium).  Today, Ravenna is a living shrine featuring the monuments and churches of the lost empire.  Boasting a rich cultural history, Ravenna is “best look at the glories of Byzantium this side of Istanbul.”  (Rick Steves, Ravenna: Italy’s Byzantium).

Since the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2011 Paris-Byzance show was inspired by the Byzantine Empire, Karl Lagerfeld went to Ravenna, Italy to shoot the Look Book for the collection.  I wonder how much of the ancient mosaics will be in the photos.  I think it’s great that Uncle Karl went to Ravenna because the photos will be have historical integrity – something that a set could never replicate.  I can’t wait to see the pictures of the look book. In the mean time, check out these gorgeous photos of mosaics from Ravenna, Italy.

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2011 Paris-Byzance Show Invitation

Ah! It’s time for my favorite Chanel collection of the year – the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall collection.  Each year, Karl Lagerfeld selects a locale to inspire his pre-fall collection and this year he was inspired by Byzantium because of Coco Chanel’s love of Byzantine-style jewelry.  The show is on Tuesday, December 7th.  Stay tuned for more info – I can’t wait to see this show!

Chanel Pop-Up Shop in the Meatpacking District, NYC

Once a retail experience left for guerilla brands like Comme des Garçons or brands that don’t have actual retail locations, the pop-up shop is the retail experience du jour.  Pop-up shops are popping up all over – and now Chanel has joined the fun.

To celebrate the release of its Côte d’Azur Cruise Collection, Chanel has opened up shop in the Meatpacking District of New York City inside a section of Jeffrey New York.  The feel of Saint-Tropez and its signature Café Sénéquier have been recreated inside the 1,000-square foot space.  The café’s iconic red laquer tables and umbrellas are featured alongside “red Chanel awnings, dressing rooms that resemble beach cabins and stands stocked with postcards of Chanel’s cruise campaign featuring Georgia May Jagger.”  (WWD).

“We loved the experience of the show, and we thought, How can we create the kind of a moment in New York,” said Barbara Cirkva, division president of fashion, watches and fine jewelry at Chanel Inc. “I don’t think of it as a pop-up shop, but almost as an installation that recreates the magic of Saint-Tropez in New York, and gets everyone in the mood as they are thinking about going away for the holiday.”

The pop-up shop carries the Côte d’Azur Cruise Collection as well as a selection of men’s ties and J12 watches.  The boutique will host a party on November 30th and will remain open through January 4, 2011.  If you are in NY, you should definitely try to stop by and pick up a free postcard!  I wonder if Chanel will start having more pop-up shops in the future…we shall see.
