Lagerfeld Links, Karlisms and Karlification: The Big Fat Karl Lagerfeld Update!

Lagerfeld Links!

I’ve been traveling and dealing with a sick child so I haven’t been able to update as quickly as I would like. There has been so much Karl Lagerfeld news lately so here’s a big round-up of the best Karl news…

Karl Lagerfeld’s new line KARL now has a website where you can purchase online if you are in the U.K, France, Germany and Italy. The Karl website also includes a blog for everything Karl related - even KARLISMs – which I will take full credit for thank you since I’ve been using the term since 2010!! KARL.com

View Chanel’s “The Little Black Jacket” Exhibit Online!

chanel the little black jacket exhibit online
For those of us who were not fancy enough to be invited to the opening of Chanel’s “The Little Black Jacket” exhibit or don’t live in Japan (or won’t be visiting any time soon), we can still see the stunning work of Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld. All of the photos from The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld are on view on a new Chanel microsite devoted to the exhibit. The site is a bit interactive as hints of photos rotate you click on one to see the full photo.  It will take some time to see all of the photos – I kind of wish there was a way to just scroll through them all but that’s just the rushed person in me who has no time for everything.  By displaying the photos the way they did, I think Chanel intends for you  to peruse and discover as you would in a real gallery.  Enjoy!

Book Review: “Coco Chanel, An Intimate Life” by Lisa Chaney

coco chanel an intimate life by lisa chaney
I have been reading Coco Chanel, An Intimate Life by Lisa Chaney for months now and I have finally finished it! It didn’t take me a long time because I didn’t like it, rather I quite enjoyed it. I simply couldn’t find the time to sit and read, one of my great relaxing pleasures. Yes, I could have skimmed the book and written a quick review but I didn’t think that would be fair to you and I really wanted to give the book a full read and I’m glad I did.

Last year so many biographies of Coco Chanel came out and I was wondering if they would all have something new to add and surprisingly, they all do. The general story is the same and Lisa Chaney does a fine job of recounting the tale that Coco told. What distinguishes Chaney’s telling is her historical context. Lisa Chaney dives deep into the societal and cultural mores, and explains in detail what was happening around Chanel. Giving Chanel’s story context helps paint a more detailed picture of the life that Coco Chanel lived. As someone who loves history, I really enjoyed this aspect of Coco Chanel, An Intimate Life and it shed more light on the mysterious Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel, An Intimate Life is available online at Amazon.com.

CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne Opening & Eye Palette

CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

Earlier this month CHANEL feted the opening of its new boutique at 51 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld. Positioned on one of the most prestigious addresses in the world, the 6,500-square-foot boutique will house the unique world of CHANEL and all of Karl Lagerfeld’s creations – Ready-to-Wear, handbags, shoes, costume jewelry and other accessories. Watches and fine jewelry are also showcased.

CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

Inspired by the refined private apartment of Mademoiselle Chanel at 31 rue Cambon, the store is set over two floors and reflects the luxury, elegance and modernity of CHANEL. The conception of this store was entrusted to architect Peter Marino. With typical verve he has designed an exceptional venue that embodies the aesthetic codes which characterize the brand.

CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

The Chanel 51 Avenue Montaigne opening party guests included French actresses Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Joana Preiss, Virginie Ledoyen, Elisa Sednaoui and Anna Mouglalis, CHANEL ambassadress, Chinese actress Zhou Xun, Taïwanese actress Michelle Chen, British actress Kaya Scodelario, Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate and Brazilian actress Laura Neiva as well as the architect Peter Marino turned out to discover the new boutique during the opening cocktail which was followed by a live concert given by the British group Django Django at the Maison Blanche. The boutique looks lovely – I hope to see it the next time in Paris!

OMBRES MATELASSEES 51 MONTAIGNE Eye Shadow Palette

To commemorate the opening of the CHANEL Boutique at 51 Avenue Montaigne, Peter Philips created Ombres Matelassées palette – a gorgeous palette consisting of the following shades: Pear, Pale Gold, Gold, Golden Khaki and Black Night. The two darker shades can be used as eyeliner when applied with a damp brush. The embossed Matelassées pattern of course is inspired by the iconic 2.55 bag. Right now this palette is available in Europe but I’m guessing it should make its way stateside the way the Las Vegas de Chanel collection eventually branched out beyond Las Vegas.

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Compact

Chanel’s new Vitalumière Aqua Compact is a water-based foundation compact with 24% water content. The water content gives a fresh feel to your skin that doesn’t feel sticky. The Vitalumière Aqua Compact’s light formula dries instantly and is perfect for dry and normal skin. The all day formula contains moisturizers, vitamin E and SPF 15. The Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Compact is available in six shades in two color families: Harmony Beiges – Beige 10, Beige 20, Beige 30, Beige 40 and Beige Rose – Beige 32 and Beige 42.

Vitalumière Aqua Compact is available now at Chanel makeup counters. I definitely want to give this a try. I’m not a fan of heavy foundations but I’m definitely needing a little something to even out my skin tone. Can’t wait to try it out!
