Tasty Indulgences & Manicures! A Night Out With Qream & Glam

I’m happy to announce that La Chanelphile has been selected as a NY Fashion Week correspondent for Glam!  I’m reporting from New York and I’ll be giving you a taste of the fashion action happening here in the Big Apple.  To kick off Fashion Week, Glam and Qream hosted a night of pampering and tasty indulgences.

I’ve rarely been one to go for “girly” drinks but tonight I experienced a drink that appeals to the sophisticated ladies in us.  Qream is a cream liqueur available in two flavors – strawberry and peach.  Pharrell Williams had a hand in the development and marketing of Qream and you know that whatever he touches is instantly cool.  Qream is no exception.

To get us acquainted with Qream, Glam and Qream hosted a night of pampering at a NYC salon.  We each had a manicure and pedicure as we sipped our cocktails. How decadent!  For a girl that likes luxury, tonight’s event could not get any better.

For those of you who haven’t tried it yet, Qream is a tasty alternative to the standard bar fare that is feminine but not “frou frou.”  From the soft pink and peach color, to the sweetness on your palette, to the perfume-esqe stylized bottle, you’ll be the first to know the cool touch of Qream.  Who knew taste-making could be so delicious?

Please drink responsibly.  Drinking and driving is not chic. (Neither is drinking and dialing).

Qream Brand Statement:
QREAM WITH A QTM is a one-of-a-kind cream liqueur. It was created by an inspired alliance between Diageo and Grammy Award-winning musician, cultural ambassador and style visionary, Pharrell Williams. Williams was instrumental in the development of the liqueur’s creation – from taste and bottle design to marketing and advertising. Available in the U.S. in two flavors – Strawberry Crème and Peach Crème – Qream is 99% lactose free at 12.5% ABV.  Visit the Qream Facebook page at facebook.com/qreamofficial.

My Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s Purchases

karl lagerfeld for macys

Yesterday I was at Macy’s in time for the release of Karl Lagerfeld’s collection. I’ve never been very successful at getting collabo stuff (CDG x H&M, KL x H&M, Lanvin x H&M) because I don’t wait in line, but I was determined to get my hands on some of the Karl Lagerfeld Impulse collection for Macy’s. Fortunately, there was no line – in fact, I was the first one there and got to peruse the collection at my leisure.

I picked many items to try on (and in multiple sizes because I didn’t know how the sizes ran). There were some items that I really wanted – like the faux leather pants – but they ran too big :( There’s something about leather pants – my inner rock star has always wanted a pair but alas, it was not meant to be.  After playing dress up in the fitting room, I ended up getting a dress, scarf, t-shirt and two blouses. I’m really happy with all of the pieces – I will definitely be wearing many of them next week in NY for Fashion Week!  Check out the items I purchased below.

You can find the Karl Lagerfeld Impulse collection at select Macy’s and on Macys.com.

Here is a list of Macy’s in the Bay Area that are carrying the collection:

San Francisco Union Square
Valley Fair
Monterey Del Monte Center
Santa Rosa Plaza
Walnut Creek Broadway Plaza
Corte Madera Village
Concord Sunvalley
Fairfield Solano
Pleasanton Stoneridge

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet & Beauté des Ongles Matte Top Coat

chanel rouge allure velvet lipstick for fall 2011

For fall, Chanel is unveiling a new matte lipstick – Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet. The soft, yet intense rich matte color is created with the inclusion of mother-of-pearl pigments. The introductory collection of Rouge Allure Velvet includes eight shades La Ravissante, La Câline, La Raffinée, L’Exubérante, La Fascinate, La Somptueuse, La Sensuelle, L’Exquise. The non-drying matte Rouge Allure Velvet comes in a sophisticated click-open case.  The Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lip colours will retail for $32.

The Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet collection will also include 3 Le Vernis shades, Pirate, Rose Caché, Rose Exubérant, and the introduction of Beauté des Ongles – a new topcoat that will give any shade of nail polish a matte finish.  The limited edition topcoat and Le Vernis shades will retail for $25.

I’m excited to see this collection. I’m a fan of matte lip and nail products, I think they look really sophisticated. I also love the feel of this ad – it’s so simple and chic – very Chanel. The lighting, especially the use of the spotlight, creates a very femme fatale effect.

Book Review: Chanel by Jean Leymarie

chanel by jean leymarieIf 2009 was the year of Chanel films, then 2011 is the year of Chanel books.  Originally published in 1987, Jean Leymarie, a French art historian, wrote Eternal Chanel, a work that elevated Coco Chanel’s place in history from fashion designer to artist.  The work was out of print for some time but earlier this year, the work was re-printed with a cover redesigned by Philippe Apeloig.

I recently purchased Chanel by Jean Leymarie and it now holds a dear place in my Chanel library.  Part art book, part biography, Chanel is unlike other books on Coco Chanel because of it’s approach.  Rather than detail her life story, Leymarie set out “to provide a general overview of Chanel’s creative history and evolution within the context of the artistic world of her time.”  (Chanel, Jean Leymarie, p.7).  The book starts off with a brief history of fashion beginning in Ancient Egypt to modern day.  Then the book reviews art movements and key moments in Chanel’s career.

Chanel by Jean Leymarie is a lovely book because you can see Chanel’s work alongside popular art movements of the time.  Providing a context to see Chanel’s work, you are transported through time to a different era.  Chanel has many photos I have not seen published in other books, as well as old favorites.  I am so happy I bought this book and I know it will be a book that I refer to often.  You can purchase Chanel by Jean Leymarie on Amazon.com.

Freja Beha Cries Chanel Tears

freja beha crying chanel logo tearsChanel News posted images of the making of the “Chanel Cocomation” – the campaign that Karl Lagerfeld shot and Carine Roitfeld styled.  By now we’ve seen the images in magazines and online but I don’t recall seeing any images with Freja Beha crying Chanel logo tears.  I wonder if there is also a little film go go along with the campaign? Here are the rest of the behind-the-scenes images…

Les Aquarelles de Chanel Makeup Collection

Les Aquarelles de Chanel Makeup CollectionLes Aquarelles de Chanel, the newest makeup collection from Chanel, is the corresponding makeup collection to the Summer haute couture collection.  You may remember, but the Chanel Spring-Summer 2011 haute couture collection was inspired by the paintings of Marie Laurencin, specifically a portrait she painted of Coco Chanel, hence the name Les Aquarelles which is French for watercolors.  The soft watercolors translated to a palette of soft pastelles and breezy fabrications of chiffon with light reflecting beading. The makeup collection to match is just as light and soft.

The highlight of the collection is the limited edition OMBRES TISSÉES a graduating color palette with beiges, pinks and peaches (creating a signature tweed effect) perfect for sweeping on eyes or cheeks (or both).  The collection also includes blushes JOUES CONTRASTE in Pink Cloud and Rose Pétale, eyeshadow OMBRE ESSENTIELLE in Gris Exquis, lipstick ROUGE COCO SHINEin Royallieu, mascara STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF in Ebene and LE VERNIS in Tendresse.

Les Aquarelles de Chanel can be purchased online on Chanel.com or in Chanel boutiques.

31 Rue Cambon: Chanel Magazine Fall-Winter 2011

31 rue cambon chanel magazine fall winter 2011So many goodies in the mail lately!  Last week I received a copy of Chanel’s Magazine 31 Rue Cambon.  Like anything they produce, the Fall-Winter 2011 issue of 31 Rue Cambon is exquisitely crafted.  The magazine gives an inside glimpse to the collections and has gorgeous close up photos of the Fall-Winter 2011 Haute Couture collection.  The issue also includes sketches by Karl Lagerfeld and articles on the new J12 Titanium watch, shoe atelier Massaro, Fall-Winter 2011 Ready-toWear collection, the Mademoiselle bag, Les Exclusifs de Chanel and other cosmetics, among other highlights from the season.  I love flipping through the pages and seeing all of the Chanel eye candy page after page.  I’m definitely adding 31 Rue Cambon to my Chanel library.
