Vanessa Paradis Daydreams

I knew Vanessa Paradis was a singer but I didn’t realize that she sang the song in the Rouge Coco commercial that she starred in. Here’s a video of her recording Daydream – the song featured in the commercial – and the commercial itself as a reminder :)

Strike A Pose, There’s Nothing To It

chanel strike a pose
Peter Philips strikes again! Not only is he a makeup magician but he seems to have a knack for creating makeup videos. In his latest video, Strike A Pose, Philips updates iconic Chanel images from old Chanel ad campaigns and juxtaposes them with the ads themselves – creating a collage of timeless beauty. It’s a beautiful video and every time I watch it I can’t help but wonder how the model was able to line up the tears so seamlessly.

Take A Chance!

chanel chance
A few weeks I posted about Anne V’s reprieve in an updated Chance fragrance commercial directed by Jean-Paul Goude. Chanel is now doing a big push on the Chance trio of fragrances – Chance, Chance Eau Fraîche and Chance Eau Tendre – and has new commercials for each of the scents.  Each commercial is color coordinated to match the fragrance and capture the mood of each scent – happy, playful and tender. The ads are short and sweet and are fun to watch in a series.

All three Chance commercials were directed by Jean-Paul Goude and feature the song “Taking a Chance on Love”.  I’m not sure who the singer is, but it sounds like Ella Fitzgerald or Renee Olstead to me.  I will try to confirm and update the post as soon as I know for sure.  In the meantime, enjoy the three commercials…

The Bride Did Not Wear Chanel

lily allen wedding dres by Delphine ManivetWho started all those nasty rumors floating around online?  The rumors that Karl Lagerfeld was designing not one, but two gowns for Lily Allen’s wedding were simply not true.  Lily Allen did not wear Chanel for her wedding.  Instead, she wore a 1920s inspired lace gown by Delphine Manivet.

I think she should have worn Chanel.  How great would it have been to go back into the archives and select a gown from the actual time period that was actually designed by Gabrielle Chanel??  Who knows what really happened.  There’s no official word out just some news from the Mirror – which isn’t the most reputable source to begin with.  I’ll keep you postd as I find out more information.

Congratulations to Lily Allen and Sam Cooper on their wedding and on expecting a child!

Chanel Cruise 2011/12 Ad Campaign

Chanel Cruise 2011/12 by Karl Lagerfeld Saskia de Brauw

Last month shortly after Chanel showed its Cruise 2011/12 collection, I posted images of Karl Lagerfeld shooting images for the press kit.  Those images – also used for the Chanel Cruise 2011/12 ad campaign – have now surfaced online.  The ads are shot in black and white in a studio setting and they feature Karl’s “it boy” Baptiste Giabiconi and Saskia de Brauw.  The photos are a bit plain but I suppose they highlight the clothing and jewels since there is nothing else in the photo to distract you.  I have to admit that I don’t get why Saskia de Brauw was cast for this campaign.  She seems a bit plain to me. What do you think of the photos?

Northern Lights: Northern Women in Chanel Out July 1st

Northern Women in ChanelSwedish couple photographer Peter Farago and stylist Ingela Klemetz-Farago have collaborated with Chanel to release Northern Women in Chanel, a book of fashion photos featuring forty-five Scandinavian beauties wearing Chanel including Carmen Kass, Helena Christensen, and Freja Beha Erichsen.

Ingela stated, “It was a fashion journey” – and what a journey it was with unlimited access to Chanel’s fashion archives! Over the course of one year, the duo shot over 300 looks featuring Chanel pieces from the present to one-of-a-kind pieces dating back to the 1920′s. “’We’re so close to nature here,’ says Farago, who was inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s earthy heroines. ‘That strength and honesty makes for a graceful, down-to-earth kind of femininity.’” (Vogue.com, May 31, 2011).

The preface is written by Karl Lagerfeld in celebration of these Northern beauties. Northern Women in Chanel releases July 1, 2011 and is limited to 2112 numbered copies worldwide. You can purchase it through Farago Publishing. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Save the Children.  An accompanying exhibition starts in Stockholm on June 30th.  No word yet if it’s coming stateside but I hope it is!

Les Exclusifs de Chanel Now in Parfum Form

les exclusifs de chanel parfum
Les Exclusifs de Chanel, the heritage fragrances named after pivotal icons and places in Mlle. Chanel’s life are now available in parfum form. The fragrances, which originally were only offered in hefty 6.8 ounce flacons were made in light concentrations and meant to be sprayed liberally. Last year smaller, travel-friendly 2.5 ounce petits flacons were introduced and Chanel recently announced the introduction of Jersey, a new addition to Les Exclusifs range.  Now, Chanel is releasing Les Exclusifs in parfum form:  The most luxurious, concentrated form of fragrance – the fullest expression of the perfumer’s art. The parfums will be released in groups and the first four scents available in parfum are GARDÉNIA, N°22, CUIR DE RUSSIE and BOIS DES ILES and are available online for $160.

Check out the video clip below from an Arthaus documentary where Mlle. Chanel herself speaks on the importance of fragrance…
