Chanel Joaillerie Spring 2012 Open Necklace with Shooting Star Brooch

Chanel presented its Chanel Joaillerie Spring 2012 collection – the haute couture of fine jewelry.  What set this presentation apart was that it celebrates the 80th anniversary of Coco Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection. In homage to Coco Chanel’s original 1932 collections, Chanel displayed nine celestial-inspired pieces – a preview of what we can expect to see at the July presentation that will honor the 80th anniversary.  Coco Chanel was intrigued by astrology so taking inspiration from the cosmos was a natural progression for her.  These pieces are literally “out of this world.”

Chanel is big in Japan – and they know it. On March 21-23 Chanel will host three events: a presentation of the winter couture show, the opening a pop-up shop, and opening an exhibition devoted to Chanel’s iconic tweed jackets to showing images from Karl Lagefeld’s book “The Little Black Jacket,” and styled by Carine Roitfeld. Chanel Avant Karl – Rare Period Chanel Costume Jewelry

rare period chanel costume jewelry 1stdibsHere is my belated gift to you: a feast of Chanel costume jewelry treasures designed by Gabriella “Coco” Chanel herself.  This very rare collection of jewels is now on sale online through 1stDibs.com.  Prices range from $1,000 to $20,000 and every piece is a treasure.  A true glimpse into Mademoiselle’s exquisite taste, the collection of jewelry is museum worthy.  I’m so very jealous of anyone that purchases any of these pieces.  Ranging from $1,400 to $22,000 this jewelry is truly worth the investment.

Sneak Peek: Chanel Spring Summer 2012

Chanel Spring Summer 2012 neon sneaker

What happens when you combine neon with Chanel?  You get the Spring Summer 2012 collection.  These pieces were not on the runway but a Spanish blogger was invited to a press preview in Madrid and posted some great pics of pieces from the 2102 Chanel spring summer collection.

I love the sneakers – especially the high tops – and did you see the tennis balls?  So cute, but too cute to actually play with.  We also get glimpses of new bags, shoes and neon jackets.  It all looks very summery and fun – can’t wait to see it in stores!

    Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2012 Paris-Bombay Accessories

    Chanel Paris-Bombay Accessories

I’ve said it before, I’ve said it again – I’m an accessories girl. I like apparel, but I LOVE accessories. To me, apparel is just something you wear under accessories. The Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2012 Paris-Bombay Accessories were so intricate that they could have had a show unto themselves – oppulent would be an understatement. But for all of their embellishment, Karl Lagerfeld managed to make it look all in good taste.

All of the models wore tikka – jewelry hanging on to the forehead that you attach to your hair – the Chanel version differed on some models by the addition of many chains that hung and draped over the side of the face. Bracelets took on a life of their own with some covering the hand and some with finger attachments. Necklaces ran the gamut from chokers to full bib necklaces to running across the body, across the shoulder and even full body jewelry that looked like a mesh overlay worn over clothing. Fingerless gloves and boots have patterns on them that were reminiscent of mehendi henna patterns normally seen on the hands and feet of brides.

New iterations of the Boy bag had all or one of the following: quilting on the front flap, exotic skins, Double-C clasp, and jewel encrusted thick straps. Some bags were in exotic skins while others looked like they were made of metal, some were in metallic leather while others were heavily jewel encrusted. Chanel showed these little pyramid-esque evening purses that looked like they were made to house treasure. My favorite bag was a snake skin clutch with diamond encrusted clasp. Sandals mimicked the bracelets and looked like foot jewelry while some boots looked like they were extensions of the pants. Gold booties looked inspired by men’s footwear but were every bit feminine. I can’t wait for this collection to be in stores so I can see all of the details in person!

    Chanel Métiers D’Art Paris-Bombay 2012 – Maison Lesage & Maison Desrues

The Chanel Métiers D’Art collections are all about featuring the fine workmanship of the artisanal houses that Chanel has purchased as part of Paraffection. In the video below you’ll get an inside look at Maison Lesage & Maison Desrues creating pieces for the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2012 Paris-Bombay collection. Maison Lesage focuses on embroidery while Maison Desrues creates jewelery and accessories. When you see the amount of work that goes into each piece you understand the hefty price tag of the pieces! It’s quite mesmerizing to watch…

    Chanel Links: Thanksgiving 2011 Weekend

I took a much-needed few days off to celebrate Thanksgiving (and my birthday) but that didn’t stop Chanel or Karl Lagerfeld from making the news. Let’s play a little catch-up to see what happened in the Chanel world last week…

I’m not sure why everyone on the interweb is so surprised that Karl Lagerfeld makes a lot of money considering who he works for and the breadth of his projects – but he does, ok? WWD

karl lagerfeld penKarl Lagerfeld will be donning a new hat - that of editor. In February 2012, “Lagerfeld will guest edit all Metro editions around the world. As part of the project, he will create a series of collectible sketches, illustrations and columns as well as choose the stories for the newspaper and give his notoriously provocative comments on the news of the day.”  Metro
