Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai
The much anticipated Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai collection was shown today in Shanghai and like past Métiers D’Art collections, Karl Lagerfeld took us on a journey to another time and place. It turns out the silent film he wrote and directed did indeed give us a glimpse of some of the time periods in China’s history that inspired some pieces, namely the 20s, 30s, 40s, 60s and traditional imagery from the Imperial Court.

The collection featured Chinoiserie at its best with borrowed elements including the utilitarian military looks of Communist China, cheongsam gowns, Coolie straw hats, and accents of red and yellow. The collection was very luxurious with pendant earrings and hair pieces, camelia leather leggings, sculptural coats and shaggy furs. It wouldn’t be a Chanel show without the usual suspects: camelias galore, the iconic 2.55 handbag, and the signature tweed suit.

The collection is beautiful and I can’t wait to see detail shots of the accessories and nail colors. My favorite item in the collection by far are the leather camelia leggings – they are sexy, feminine and so necessary in my closet! More images from the collection below, as well as a video of the runway show set against the backdrop of the beauty of Shanghai.

Last week Singer22 announced that they are selling vintage Chanel accessories provided by What Goes Around Comes Around.  The pieces are lovely, yet still pricey, so luckily most of the pieces are still in stock.  Most of the pieces are necklaces but don’t let the pictures deceive you, many of the necklaces are actually oversize statement pieces.  And, since they’re vintage, you can be sure that you’ll be the only girl wearing these pieces.  You can shop online now at WGACA for Singer22.com.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear. Coco Country at 5 O’Clog

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to WearIt was a hoedown at The Grand Palais in Paris with models strutted around a Chanel barn, haystacks and all.  Karl Lagerfeld never disappoints in showmanship and the Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear show was an example of how he can take something as dowdy as country bumpkin and make it très chic.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

Lagerfeld was inspired by Marie Antoinette’s shepherdess phase, as well as citing Coco Chanel’s love for escaping the big city to experience the country. Signature Chanel themes like tweed, lace, and the ubiquitous bags were all there – but with a country twist. Dresses and skirts were short – perfect for frolicking in the fields and the looks were completed with milk maid clogs.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

The beauty was kept simple and natural with hair in messy Bardot-eque twists with shafts of wheat tucked in the up-dos. One of my favorite aspects of the show was the body paint. From the double C’s, to a rosary, models have body paint on writs, necklines and their legs.  And the new nail colours!  It looks like a beigey-taupe color will be popular for Spring.

The highlight of the show was Lily Allen, the face of Chanel’s Coco Cocoon Collection, rising from the ground in a giant bale of hay to perform her country-inspired hit, Not Fair. You can see her perform and see the A-list celebs that were front row (like Rihanna and Prince) in the videos below.

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou

A few months back we showed you the indulgent Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2009 Paris-Moscou collection and the coordinating Paris-Moscou nail colours, and now we dug up some more photos of the collection to share with you.  If you know me, you know that I love all things Chanel, but this collection is one of the best I’ve seen.

Karl Lagerfeld is a master and staying true to the roots of the house of Chanel, while also injecting youth, fun an creativity into everything he does.  I love that he really digs deep into the inspiration behind a line, researches all of the nuances, and translates them into elaborate, whimsical clothing and accessories.

The Paris-Moscou theme stems from Chanel’s connections to exiled Russian royalty and her relationships with them influenced some of her collections.  I’m not sure if the timing of this collection was intentional, but this year also marks the release of a film detailing the love affair Mlle. Chanel had with another famous Russian, Igor Stravinsky.  Coincidence, or not, the Paris-Moscou collection has a fairytale quality to it – they seem the perfect pieces for a young czarina.

Wearin’ The Money – Chanel “5″ Euro Cuffs

Chanel “5″ Euro Cuffs
Chanel “5″ Euro Cuffs

Back in November we gushed about the Chanel 5 Euro Coin made to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Gabrielle Chanel’s birth.  If you didn’t get your Euro, this Spring, Uncle Karl is releasing cuffs – accessories that Mademoiselle herself used to wear, with the gold coins embedded in them.   If he’s got these up his sleeve (pun intended), I can’t wait to see what other “coin” pieces he has.  Please, please have bracelets and belts with dangling coins galore ala vintage 80s Chanel!!

“If I Were A Rich Girl” – Chanel Fall/Winter 2008

*I know proper grammar dictates the use of the word “were” not “was” but the title is a tongue in cheek reference to the song Rich Girl song*

I’m infatuated!  While many ladies are crazy for Olivier Sitruk, the actor who played Boy Capel in Lifetime’s Coco Chanel, I’m obsessed over the Chanel tights that are white in the front and black in the back with interlocking C’s at the ankle (pictured above).  I want them so badly that the other night I had a dream about them:  I was at the Chanel store and they didn’t have my size – gasp!  I was relieved to find it was only a dream but I still woke up sans Chanel tights.  Luckily, the Chanel Fall/Winter 2008 Collection just released and is in stores now.  Check out more pictures from the Fall 2008 campaign and my favorite pieces that I would get “if I were a rich girl.”

I love the black cuff!  And the charm bracelet with black and white pearls and shoe, Cs and purse charms is insane!

Remember the carousel from the runway show?  It’s come to life in a few pieces of costume jewelry.

Sigh, the shoes that are perfect with the tights.

So many beautiful bags to choose from.  I love the square quilt on the black bag and the chain on the grey bag on the right.

OOh! A bow and camelia all in one!  An iconic brooch with Maltese Cross – a Chanel must have.

More gorgeous bags.

One boomerang you’ll be glad will come back to you.

And more shots from the Chanel Fall 08 Look Book – so dark and moody. I love it!

Chanel Fine Jewelry Camélia Collection

*I know proper grammar dictates the use of the word “were” not “was” but the title is a tongue in cheek reference to the song Rich Girl song*
chanel fine jewelry camelia collection
By now you probably know that I love all things Chanel, and their new fine jewelry Camélia Collection is no exception. The Camélia was Mlle. Chanel’s favorite flower and she adorned herself with this bloom often, so much so, that the Camélia is an important part of the company’s branding. The collection features 3 themes: Camélia Sculpté (sculpted black onyx and white cacholong with diamonds), Fil de Camélia (white gold with diamonds) and Camélia Ajouré (yellow gold). I love them all and though they all feature the Camélia in the design, each collection is unique and breath-taking. The Camélia Sculpté collection is a twist on Mlle. Chanel’s favorite color combination: “Feminine and delicate, . . . [the Camélia Sculpté collection] draws on the refinement and perfect harmony of the contrast between black and white, the two fundamental colours [sic] of Chanel.” The Fil de Camélia collection is for the girls who consider diamonds to be their best friend. “This is an irregular line that emphasizes the perfect curves of the iconic Chanel flower and the faultess contours of its petals.” And finally, the Camélia Ajouré collection is a very modern, airy interpretation of the iconic flower. “The feminine curves of the Chanel flower form a breezy mesh of fluide geometric effects and stylized lace impressions on the skin.” I want one of everything please!
