Whew, these days Chanel is releasing so many videos I feel like all I’m doing is re-posting videos. Rather than splitting them up, I’m posting all of the videos regarding the N°5 CULTURE CHANEL Exhibition in this post.

Chanel has created videos documenting the opening of the N°5 CULTURE CHANEL Exhibition, the behind the scenes and the artistic influences. You can view them all below. I so wish I were in Paris to see this for myself. I hope this exhibit will travel! You can also learn more on http://www.5-culturechanel.com

    Chanel Cruise 2013/2014 Collection

Yesterday Chanel presented is Cruise 2014 collection in Dempsey Hill, Singapore. The sweltering, year-round heat of the small island state makes it feel as if you are on permanent vacation, making it the perfect locale for a resort collection presentation.

The festivities began the night before, on Wednesday night when Chanel screened the premiere of “Once Upon a Time” in the courtyard of the historic Raffles Hotel. The next day, Chanelphiles were greeted with one of my favorite resort collections that I’ve seen.

    coco chanel deauville

My absolute favorite look was the first look – one that you saw Keira Knightley wearing as Coco Chanel in “Once Upon a Time” – because it’s essentially a replica of a look that Coco Chanel herself wore. The jersey ensemble was one of her first apparel creations and she was pictured wearing the same look in Deauville.

    Chanel Cruise 2014 Collection

What I loved about this collection was the simplicity and how Karl Lagerfeld really stayed true to the codes that Coco Chanel established. The palette was all black, white, beige and navy/denim with no other color in sight (which I loved by the way!). The models were draped in pearls and most wore some variation of a shoe with a toe-cap. The long side-swept bangs and shock of bright blue eye-makeup gave the timeless looks a bit of edge.

Check out the full collection for yourself below – remember to click on the first image and a slideshow will open up that you can click through.

Video: “Once Upon A Time” Trailer with Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel

The internet has been abuzz with the news that Karl Lagerfeld chose Keira Knightley to play Coco Chanel in an upcoming short fashion film and the trailer is now here! Entitled “Once Upon A Time” the short film features Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel as a young designer at her first boutique in Deauville, France. French film actress Clotilde Hesme is also in “Once Upon A Time” and I’m guessing she plays Coco Chanel’s aunt Adrienne.

The full film will be posted on http://www.chanel-news.com on May 8th at the same time as its premiere in Singapore, the destination chosen by Karl Lagerfeld for his upcoming Cruise fashion show.

    Soundtrack:
    Ah! Finalmente!
    Extract from “Tosca”
    Composed by Giacomo Puccini
Performed by Gottfried Hornik, Fernando Corena, José Carreras, Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan
℗ 1980 Deutsche Grammophon GmbH, Hamburg

Karl Lagerfeld Directs Keira Knightly in Chanel Deauville Film

    coco chanel deauville

Last November I mentioned that the upcoming Chanel Resort 2014 collection will take place in Deauville to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Coco Chanel’s first boutique. While it appears that he is now showing the Cruise collection in Singapore, Karl Lagerfeld is directing a Chanel film featuring Keira Knightly as Coco Chanel. Though shooting in Paris, he plans on recreating the seaside town with “detailed retro sets.” Chanel’s aunt Adrienne (pictured above on the right with Coco Chanel) will be played by French actress Clotilde Hemse. The film will also feature Stella Tennant, Tallulah Harlech, Caroline De Maigret and Brad Kroenig and his son Hudson. The film will debut in May along with the collection.

Alice Dellal is the Face of Chanel Boy Bags Again

alice dellal chanel boy bag spring 2013

Alice Dellal made her Chanel debut in the first Chanel Boy Bag ad campaign last spring and now Chanel has unveiled the second Chanel Boy Bag campaign starring Alice Dellal as the face of Boy Bag again.  The campaign features black and white images of Alice Dellal on horseback  – these photos are reminiscent of an image I’ve seen of Coco Chanel on horseback (with Boy Capel) and were probably inspired by that image (see below).  The campaign was photographed at La ferme de la Chapelle, Fontaine-Chaalis.

Coco Chanel’s Tips on Making Unique Style

La mode passe mais le style reste.
    (Fashion passes, but style remains.)
    –Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel

What makes your style unique? That was the question posed to me Diet Dr Pepper. It sounds like an easy question but when you have to sit down and articulate it, it’s not that simple. So I looked to the Queen of Style – Coco Chanel – for some on ways to explain how I make my style unique.

    Know Thyself

The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you.
    -Coco Chanel

The first element in having a unique style is knowing yourself, what works on you and what doesn’t. That also means know what you’re comfortable in because something can look great on you but if you’re not comfortable in it that will show through and take away any “style” you have.
For me, I am under five-feet tall – I’m not going into specifics ☺ I know that since I am very petite I need to keep my clothing understated because if the clothing is too loud, voluminous, or long the outfit will very easily end up wearing me – and that’s never a good look. Instead, I often opt for clean, simple streamlined clothing that doesn’t overwhelm my small body.
Since I’m petite I also need to be weary of clothing that can come off as too young. For some reason, people equate height with age and if I were to wear a ruffle, I would look twelve-years old. Knowing the body and skin you’re in is the first – and most important – step to achieving unique style.

    Accessorize!

    Elegance is refusal.
    -Coco Chanel

Since I keep my clothing simple because of my petite frame I like to make a statement with my accessories. Earrings, necklaces, cuffs, bracelets, shoes and bags – I love them all – and if they are Chanel, well that’s a bonus! Fortunately, for the most part, most accessories work on most people so I can be more adventurous in this area. Just remember Coco Chanel’s advice and before heading out the door, take one thing off.

    Signatures

In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.
    -Coco Chanel

It could be your long curly hair or your red lips or a signature scent – but if you want to create a unique style all your own you must have some signatures themes. Consistently playing up certain features, or wearing certain types of items helps you to create a signature. Though repeating an item can seem boring to some, it’s how you create your stamp on something and make it your own. You don’t always have to wear the same shade of red for example, but if wearing lipstick is part of your “look” then always wearing a bold lip is part of your unique style.

    Personality

Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress.
    -Coco Chanel

You can spend all day dressing yourself up but if you don’t have a personality then it’s for nothing. At the end of the day it’s your smile, your laugh, your charm, your wit that people will remember. Without that, there’s nothing.

N°5 Culture Chanel Exhibit Comes to Paris

In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel launched her first perfume – N°5.

She entrusted this task to Ernest Beaux, a French perfume creator to the court of Russia until 1917, whom she later met in Grasse in 1920. Together they invented a fragrance “with the scent of a woman” as she would like to qualify it. Thought out like a designer-dress, N°5 was the first “abstract” fragrance. Unlike the fragrances in fashion at the time, which often suggested a single “figurative” scent like rose, jasmine or lilac, N°5 had no identifiable dominant note among the eighty ingredients that made up its composition.

New and audacious, N°5 evoked a mysterious flower. This olfactory revolution succeeded in outmoding all other fragrances. If Mademoiselle Chanel conceived her N°5 to be a manifesto, she also carefully and intentionally decided on its stark name, once again defying conventions of the time with just a simple laboratory sample number, which also happened to be her lucky number.

The same minimalist rigor was applied to the N°5’s visual presentation, with its squared edges and clean graphic lines, it was slid inside white gros-grain packaging edged with black, which echoed the pure lines she used in her fashion creations.

Mademoiselle Chanel knew that this radicalness would launch her off into the avant-garde of her time – N°5’s destiny was to become an icon of modernity.

From May 5th until June 5th, 2013 the Palais de Tokyo in Paris will house the N° 5 CULTURE CHANEL exhibition as part of its Guest Program. This exhibition has once again been entrusted to Jean-Louis Froment, the curator of the previous editions of CULTURE CHANEL, held successively in Moscow’s Pushkin State Museum for Fine Arts, in Beijing at the National Art Museum of China and more recently in the Opera House in Canton.

Made up of subtle plays of correspondences, N° 5 CULTURE CHANEL cracks the N° 5 code to reveal the links which connected it to specific moments in time and to the avant-garde movements it spanned.

The works of art, photographs, archives and objects exhibited provide an account of the many inspirations which fed the imagination and world of Mademoiselle Chanel. They echo her inner thoughts and shed light on this unique and timeless perfume; whether through her favorite destinations like Venice, Russia or her villa, La Pausa or through the creations of her artist, poet and musician friends Cocteau, Picasso, Apollinaire, Stravinsky, Picabia.

Focusing on the long lasting attachments between CHANEL and the arts, N° 5 CULTURE CHANEL seeks to reveal the timeless and iconic artistic essence of the N° 5 perfume. The N° 5 CULTURE CHANEL exhibition has been put together by Jean-Louis Froment with the participation of Irma Boom, Piet Oudolf, Laurent Burgisser and Jérôme Schlomoff.
