When I went to Las Vegas to check out the trade shows for MISS, one of my first stops was the Melissa booth because I was hoping to get a sneak peek of the Karl Lagerfeld x Melissa collaboration. Unfortunately, the styles weren’t even at the show as they are being kept tightly under wraps until their release on March 26.
Melissa has releases four sketches of the Karl Lagerfeld x Melissa styles and they look adorable. I can’t wait to see the ice cream cone heels!

Karl Lagerfeld’s newest writing stint will be a column for the Wall Street Journal. If you remember, last year he was a guest editor for Metro. I’m dying to see what Karlisms will come of this new writing venture. And while you’re reading your morning paper, how cool would it be to sip on a Karl latte?
French luxury hotel brand Sofitel has tapped Karl Lagerfeld to design their newest hotel’s emblem – the Sofitel So Singapore. Coco Chanel with Stanley Marcus in Texas.
In the interview he passingly mentions that this year he will be heading to Texas for Métiers d’Art Pre-Fall 2014 Chanel shows! From the way it reads I think it will be for the Métiers d’Art collection. He stated:
When you have a show with only a girl coming out of the door, crossing a runway, it’s OK for fashion freaks but the public get bored very quickly. There has to be some magical surrounding. That’s why I went to Scotland to this castle where Mary Stuart was born, and it was quite a magical moment. To do the opposite, next time, in a year, I will go to Dallas. You know why? First of all, I love Texas. I love Texans. There’s another reason. When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty. The only press that understood it immediately was the American press, and Neiman Marcus gave her the Oscar for her collection, so I think it’s a nice thing to go there.
Stanley Marcus presents Coco Chanel with the Neiman-Marcus fashion award for 1957.
Karl Lagerfeld mentions the hostility Coco Chanel’s re-launch collections were received with in the French press but the Americans loved her. Her popularity in the U.S. made it possible for her to continue her comeback – as well as pieces that we now consider signatures like the tweed suit, 2.55 bag and toe-cap shoes.
The Chanel Métiers d’Art Paris-Texas for Pre-Fall 2014 is going to be crazy – take the intricacy of a Métiers d’Art collection and combine that with the “bigger is better” attitude of Texas and we’ve got the makings of a grand ol’ collection y’all.
Ok, so I wanted to get this up before the new year but it just didn’t happen. I took some time off to spend with my family and stayed away from all electronics to give myself a little break. I’m back and ready for action now but I still have all these links hanging over my head so I’m posting them here – maybe you heard some, maybe you didn’t. Here’s the year-end 2012 Karl Lagerfeld link list…

We’re getting closer to the date of the Chanel Métiers d’Art Paris-Edimbourg Show and Chanel has just released an image of the invitation – not to be confused with AN invitation. The Chanel Métiers d’Art Paris-Edimbourg Show Invitation features an illustration by Karl Lagerfeld of Linlithgow Palace in his signature style. No real clues as to the collection so we’ll have to wait and see.
These pictures have been out for some time now but they are too lovely not to post. The images are of Victoria Beckham shot by Karl Lagerfeld for the November 2012 issue of Elle France. The photos were shot in Coco Chanel’s personal apartment and on the infamous mirrored staircase at 31 Rue Cambon. Many of the photos – the settings and poses – are re-enactments of photos of Coco Chanel herself. The photos are nice but Victoria Beckham is no Coco Chanel.
The end of October was a bit busy for me because my daughter was celebrating Halloween for the first time with trick or treating and events at school and I took some time to spend with my family. But, Chanel news doesn’t stop coming. Here are some of my favorite Chanel-related items…

Karl Lagerfeld sketched a “no smoking” sign but it’s not your typical sign. However, he was not making a statement about unhealthy habits, instead he was noting all the YSL references on many runways and he was stating that you would find a “smoking” – the french term for tuxedo – on his runway. Lagerfeld stated: “We don’t have to do smoking. Hedi Slimane really does it well.” WWD
