Chanel Cruise 2012/13 Details of the Collection Video

The Chanel Cruise 2012/13 collection was so breath-taking from afar so words can not describe what I felt when I watched the following video showcasing the details of the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 collection. The intricacy of the beading, fabrics, enamels is amazing. So much attention is paid to every little detail – you can see why wearing Chanel is the ultimate luxury. I also think the soundtrack is a lovely accompaniment to the look of the collection. View the video below – and keep a tissue handy in case your mouth starts watering like mine did!

Chanel Heaven aka A Second Chance Resale

vintage chanel

I’ve been busy running around NYC so I haven’t had time to finish all the drafts I have started about the rest of the Cruise Collection (celebrity arrivals, etc) and the St. Tropez ephemeral boutique but I assure you, I will get to it.  I HAVE had time to go to Chanel Heaven aka A Second Chance Resale in NYC – both locations.  I will have a store review and interview of the owners coming soon but I wanted to leave you with a sneak peek – you KNOW I didn’t leave empty handed!

Chanel Cruise 2012-13 Final Walk and Decor

chanel cruise 2012 2013I always love the final walk of a Chanel runway show because I feel like it’s Chanel flexing for the rest of the world the kind of power it carries.  It always starts with Karl Lagerfeld choosing his muse du jour and walking the course of the runway with all of the models (or mannequins as they like to call them) strutting behind him like a peacock tail opening to show off it’s lovely colors.

The final walk of the Chanel Cruise 2012-13 was no different except this time, there were 66 models walking and the course of the runway were the grounds of Château de Versailles in the Bosquet des 3 Fontaines, which was restored (from original paintings from the period),thanks to the support of Madame Catharine Hamilton, President of the American Friends of Versailles (A.F.V.) and the Château de Versailles.  The decor set up for the Chanel Cruise 2012-13 show included 16 tents, 22 lamps, 480 seats (really? 480 seats and one of those couldn’t be mine?! :) with three gorgeous fountains spouting all the while.   Though the decor was simple and chic it took one week to set up.  Check out more pics of the view below…

Chanel Cruise 2012/13 Show Beauté

Versailles de CHANEL Collection chanel cruise 2012 2013

Peter Philips created a lovely pink look that was “between girly and rebel” – very editorial and runway but not sure how it will translate as an everyday look. I will say that it was very pretty on the models and was the perfect compliment to the pastel rainbow of tweeds and chiffons that Karl Lagerfeld sent down the runway. The icing on the let-them-eat-cake look were the velvet double-C Chanel logo stickers that were placed high on the cheekbones and under the eyes of the models to mimic beauty marks made famous by Marie Antoinette.

As striking as the makeup was, I couldn’t take my eyes off of the hair by Sam McKnight. From the initial images, I thought that the models all were just wearing Dutch Boy bob wigs in pastel colors. When I saw close up images I saw that the hairstyles were actually much more complex. In a way, it was like an 18th century interpretation of a mullet – business in the front and party in the back. And by party, I mean long ponytails with big bows at the nape of the models’ necks.

Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks:

Skin prepared with HYDRA BEAUTY SERUM Hydration Protection Radiance

The Complexion
VITALUMIERE Moisture-Rich Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15
ECLAT LUMIERE Highlighting Face Pen
CORRECTEUR PERFECTION Long Lasting Concealer
POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE Natural Finish Loose Powder

EXCLUSIVE CREATION MOUCHE DE BEAUTE – “Versailles de CHANEL” Collection*

The Eyes
LIMITED EDITION OMBRE ESSENTIELLE in Rose Favorite – “Versailles de CHANEL” Collection
LE CRAYON KHOL Intense Eye Pencil in Clair
CRAYON SOURCILS Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil

Chanel Cruise 2012/13 Collection Review

Chanel Cruise 2012 2013

“I always liked Versailles. I think more French you cannot do.” – Karl Lagerfeld (WWD)

On Monday, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 collection set amidst the gardens and fountains of château de Versailles. Inspired by the château’s last residents Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI, Karl’s collection was a delicate mixture of Rococo and Rock ‘n Roll. Perhaps inspired by his latest muse Alice Dellal, or Sofia Coppola’s rendition of Marie Antoinette, Karl stated: ‘It’s Coco Rock, Not Rococo!’

The soft pinks hues in the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 are reminiscent of sweet macaroons and were a soft counter-point to the stark black and white pieces of the collection. And, of course it wouldn’t be RoCoCo without some bold gold pieces and accents.

Karl Lagerfeld managed to make 18th century fashion modern. He reinvigorated historical items like panniers – the side hoops that extend the width of skirts on the side but are left flat in the front and back. We saw pannier-like references in everything from mini-skirts to shorts. For Chanel Cruise 2012/13 Karl Lagerfeld also brought back fichus, neck kerchiefs that are tucked into the neckline. In true Chanel fashion, Lagerfeld also borrowed from the boys and put the ladies in breeches – knee-length pants that fit snugly – and waist coats.

The fabrications included pastel tweeds, sheer fabrics like lace and chiffon, and lovely watercolor florals. I haven’t seen close up pictures yet but from a distance you can see the intricacy in the details – the ruffles, floral embroideries and beading – all of it makes the garments look as if they stepped out of the 18th century but look as fresh and modern as ever. Other highlights from the collection included cropped jackets, palazzo pants, a tweed cargo-pant “track suit and feminine little day dresses perfect for afternoon tea, sight-seeing, shopping, lounging and all the fancy things that people do who “cruise” in the winter.

As is my custom my eyes went to the accessories first, and apparel after. The shoes were a metallic mix of platform sneaker meets creeper. I personally was not a fan of the platform sneaker but I liked the heeled booties and sandals the models wore with dresses. There were new interpretations of the Boy Bag, translucent cuffs, chokers, wide-brimmed hats and most importantly a quilted watering-can – for your camellia garden of course.

The hair and beauty were gorgeous as always – I’ll be posting about it separately soon so stay tuned. In the mean time, enjoy… click on the first image to view larger photos in a slide show.

I’m Going Cuckoo for Coco – Literally!

I just needed to take a moment to vent because my head is going to explode and it’s all of Chanel’s fault. In a mere 24 hours I have received news of and need to post on: the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 collection, a music video featuring Uncle Karl, a new lip color, a new nail color (post coming soon!) and the pre-fall 2012 ad campaign. (Oh, and I have a St. Tropez pop-up shop post lingering in my drafts). Please be patient with me, I’m going to get it all up, just not as fast as I would like (read: instantly). Ok, back to our regularly scheduled Chanel programming…

Chanel to Sell Double-C Face Stickers

chanel face sticker beauty mark cruise 2012
I’ll have a more detailed post on a break-down of the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 collection coming soon but I just read on the Elle blog that Chanel will be selling double-c Chanel logo, velvet face stickers as part of the Chanel Cruise 2012/13 cosmetics collection. For the show, Peter Philips hand-painted on the double-Cs but they will be produced as velvet stickers for the launch.  Just think of them as the fanciest fake beauty mark – ever! You may remember that they released the Les Trompe-L’oeil de Chanel as part of the Chanel spring 2010 collection and we saw Freja Beha cry Chanel tears so I guess this is just the natural progression. Whatever it is, I can’t wait for these to come out!

Update 05.16.12: Chanel confirmed that the Chanel logo face stickers will not be for sale. SAD FACE.
