Hi! I’ve been missing in action for the past few days because it was my daughter’s birthday so I took a some time off to celebrate her 2nd birthday. Catching up on a few thing and I’ll be back soon!

Moda Operandi is having a Vintage Chanel Heritage Auction running now through May 10th. You can purchase gently used vintage Chanel bags at a small discount. Since they are vintage items, all pieces are one of a kind and quantities are limited. If you want to get in on the action you have to act fast!

Cindy Sherman has new large-scale works on exhibit at Metro Pictures Gallery in NYC. The series of photographs is based on an insert she did for Pop Magazine that featured clothing from the Chanel archive. As she developed the images for exhibition she has since significantly altered the photos.
Each photo features Sherman wearing Chanel – ranging from pieces designed by Coco Chanel herself from the 1920s to contemporary pieces designed by Karl Lagerfeld. In each image she stares at the viewer amidst a background that in some cases is complimentary to the clothing, and in others is completely foreign. The background landscapes are photos that Sherman took on the island of Capri and on Iceland in 2010 during a volcano eruption. She manipulated the landscapes and gave them a painterly effect in Photoshop.
If you are in NYC you can see the Cindy Sherman exhibit at Metro Pictures Gallery now through June 9, 2012.

MISS is back again with more CHANAILS for their MISS Nails Did 2012 calendar. Nothing says spring like flowers and if you’re going floral – whether on your jeans, kicks or nails – they might as well be Chanel-inspired. Since color is huge for spring, and in particular for 2012, we opted for bright vintage Chanel gift wrap for our background and authentic Chanel camellia brooches to accompany our CHANAILS. I hope you’re having a great spring and let’s get ready for summer!

Here’s the video to accompany Summertime de Chanel the Summer 2012 makeup collection. It’s official, I’m ready for the beach!
I’ve been sitting on these photos for some time, I must admit that I see a lot more Chanel on the streets but I don’t walk around with my camera and/or phone out all the time so most of the time the Chanels just walk on by… But sometimes, I get lucky like I did at the Alameda Point Antique Fair. It’s hard to know what faux or not – some are definitely fake, and some I just don’t know but I like seeing anything Chanel inspired….

If they’re piled on the floor, I’m guessing they’re fake.
I also saw some gems in San Francisco like the blue purse, metallic ballet flats and the very fake (but very funny) sweat shirt…
As a true Chanelphile, I love Chanel through the ages. From original Chanel designs, to current designs by Karl Lagerfeld I want it all. I especially adore the early Karl Lagerfeld years (he started designing for Chanel in 1983) of the 80s and 90s. When I have more disposable income it will go to acquiring more vintage Chanel from this time period. Until then, I’ll watch videos of the old collections and dream…
Earlier this week Chanel hosted the 7th Annual Tribeca Film Festival Artist Awards Program Dinner; you may remember that I posted a short video a few days ago showcasing the artist awards. To commemorate the program, Chanel hosted a private dinner in NYC at Odeon with some very fancy people in attendance including Robert De Niro, Alexa Chung, Kanye West, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Jen Brill, Karlie Kloss, Leigh Lezark, Poppy Delevingne, and Cindy Sherman. And of course, many wore Chanel – see some highlights of the arrivals below. I have to say that I’m loving the floral backdrops to the rec carpets we’re seeing lately (we saw a rose covered wall at the Chanel-sponsored MOMA benefit).
I just received an update from Chanel with the official campaign shot (I love the bathing suit!) and color swatches from the Summertime de Chanel makeup collection. Here’s how Chanel describes the collection:
As longer days and warm, breezy nights herald the start of summer, Chanel embraces the season and all the vibrant makeup hues it inspires. In the Summer 2012 Collection, SUMMERTIME DE CHANEL, Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, replicates the natural glow of sunbathed skin with luminous bronze, gold and copper tones. Playing up a radiant complexion: season-perfect lip shades, from fresh pastels to bright corals.
