Making of the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 Press Kit

Yesterday Chanel presented its Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2012 collection. Chanel News posted some images from the making of the press kit for the bedazzling collection. As is customary, Karl Lagerfeld took the photos but I apologize I don’t know the name of the model. My readers always help me out in this regard so feel free to chime in if you know who she is! I always love seeing Karl in action. Enjoy…

Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2012 Presentation Video

Earlier today I reviewed the Chanel Joaillerie collection which pays homage to Coco Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection that was inspired by celestial bodies. Later on, I reviewed the spring-summer 2012 haute couture collection that simulated a commercial space shuttle but it wasn’t until I saw the actual presentation video below that I saw the connection.

This is purely my own hypothesis, but I’m betting that Karl Lagerfeld is paying homage to Coco Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection through haute couture fashion. It’s just a hunch but must me more than coincidence, no?

The video below also gives us some much needed close-ups of the hair pieces and the nail polish which looks like a shimmery powder/sky blue.

Air Chanel. Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2012

chanel haute couture spring summer 2012

“No Fifties, no Sixties, no Seventies. Just what I like.”
-Karl Lagerfeld, WWD

Chanel presented its Haute Couture spring-summer 2012 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris on Tuesday and the airplane window hint Chanel dropped on Monday was confirmed.  The Grand Palais was transformed into the interior of a “commercial space shuttle flight that, during the course of the show, left the Earth’s atmosphere and headed for space. Toward the finale, the Earth actually passed overhead, across the clear dome that allowed passengers a view of the starry sky outside.” (Style.com)

Having brought in an iceberg to the Grand Palais, surely bringing in and replicating the interior of an airplane must have been a piece of cake.  The set or “aircraft” featured a 164-foot aisle, double-C monogrammed carpet, modern seating – all complete with a bar cart (I wonder if they had double-C ice cubes?).

Air travel not only inspired the set – but the color palette of the collection – a palatte Karl Lagerfeld called a “monochrome rainbow” though he was quick to point out that “I don’t have the blues.” (WWD).  Every shade of blue was represented – from nearly translucent and almost white to the darkest of midnight blues.

The true innovation of the show however came in the form of the new silhouette Karl showed: exaggerated boat neck collars, large bell sleeves, long skirts and hyper-dropped waists.  Known for playing with androgyny and borrowing from the boys (a legacy started by Mademoiselle herself), Karl said the very low waists (at about thigh level) were meant to look “like boys whose jeans are slipping off.” (Style.com).  The show came to a traditional close with the showing of a wedding dress though there was nothing traditional about the dress at all.  I love how Karl can adopt a new silhouette each season that looks completely new and unexpected, yet so classic and chic that it looks like it came from the Chanel lexicon.

I wish I could have seen the pieces up close because the amount of detail and workmanship cannot be appreciated from photos taken from so far away.  But even with the photos, you can tell that the garments are dazzling.  The embroidery and beading alone are gorgeous.  I also would have loved to see a close up of the shoes and the hair pieces.  Speaking of hair, it seems Alice Dellal is more than just the face of the upcoming Chanel Boy Bag campaign – she was also the muse for the hairstyles worn on the runway.

I’m hoping to receive more detail images of the beauty – curious to know about new beauty products and of course – nail polish!  Stay tuned.

Thank you for flying with Chanel.

Chanel presented its Chanel Joaillerie Spring 2012 collection – the haute couture of fine jewelry.  What set this presentation apart was that it celebrates the 80th anniversary of Coco Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection. In homage to Coco Chanel’s original 1932 collections, Chanel displayed nine celestial-inspired pieces – a preview of what we can expect to see at the July presentation that will honor the 80th anniversary.  Coco Chanel was intrigued by astrology so taking inspiration from the cosmos was a natural progression for her.  These pieces are literally “out of this world.”

High Rolling! CHANEL Exclusive Edition for Las Vegas Handbags

CHANEL exclusive Edition for Las Vegas

Last week I posted about the exclusive “Las Vegas de Chanel” cosmetics collection launching to commemorate the redesign of the Chanel boutique at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.  In addition to beauty products, Chanel is releasing the Exclusive Edition for Las Vegas Handbags – a collection of 5 (Chanel’s lucky number – this is Las Vegas after all!) handbags.  All five of the bags have an element of sparkle since you can never overdo anything in Las Vegas.  My favorite of the five is the gold bag – the dice charms are too cute!  That bag was made for high rolling!

I’m not sure if the bags will be rolling out to other locations or if they are exclusive to the Bellagio or to all the Las Vegas shops.  A little birdie did tell me that the Las Vegas de Chanel cosmetics will be available at the Bellagio exclusively for one month and then trickle out to other locations.  Good news for all the readers who were asking about availability!  If you are at the Bellagio, be sure to ask for Giselle and she’ll make you look beautiful!

Viva Las Vegas! Chanel Hosts Numéros Privés

chanel numeros prive las vegas chanel carnival machine
Chanel is hosting Numéros Privés (“private numbers”), an eight-day invitation-only event/installation housed at the Wynn in Las Vegas.  The event launched on Friday with a soiree and in true Chanel fashion, the company charted private jets to fly in important clients, friends of the brand, and celebrities including the darling Les Fidèles de Chanel.  Entertainment included DJs Alexa Chung and Nick Cohen with a live performance by Imelda May and her band (retro rockabilly – video posted below if you’re not familiar).

Barbara Cirkva, Chanel’s fashion division president stated that the purpose of Numéros Privés is to “surprise and delight people” – and surprise and delight it did. With ten rooms all devoted to the signatures of the brand, the exhibition played on Coco Chanel’s lucky numbers 5, 2.55 and 31. WWD reported:

One room was filled with Chanel Bearbrick dolls and matching wallpaper, another displayed fine jewelry among sculpted topiaries. There was a recreation of Coco’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon, and a digital room that decoded the making of the 2.55 handbag. It had quilted leather walls. But no room was as popular as the one filled with old-school carnival claw games, where mesmerized guests tried to grab little Chanel gift bags with a mechanical arm.

The event also coincides with the store re-opening at the Bellagio and with Chinese New Year when many international clients travel to Las Vegas.

I only have one question…where was MY invitation? It MUST have gotten lost in the mail:)
