Last month shortly after Chanel showed its Cruise 2011/12 collection, I posted images of Karl Lagerfeld shooting images for the press kit. Those images – also used for the Chanel Cruise 2011/12 ad campaign – have now surfaced online. The ads are shot in black and white in a studio setting and they feature Karl’s “it boy” Baptiste Giabiconi and Saskia de Brauw. The photos are a bit plain but I suppose they highlight the clothing and jewels since there is nothing else in the photo to distract you. I have to admit that I don’t get why Saskia de Brauw was cast for this campaign. She seems a bit plain to me. What do you think of the photos?

Applause, the third and final Magnum Ice Cream film directed by Karl Lagerfeld is now out. It features Rachel Bilson as a world-renowned ballerina who, when unexpectedly faced with an over-zealous throng of fans evades them all to savor a moment for herself by enjoying a Magnum Ice Cream bar. She even pulls away from kissing Baptiste Giabiconi for a bite of her ice cream. I’ve had the ice cream bars – they are tasty – but I don’t know if they could distract anyone from kissing Baptiste! Chanel is gearing up for its Cruise Collection show next week and dropped the trailer of a new film by Karl Lagerfeld called The Tale of a Fairy. Here’s the trailer and what Chanel had to say about it:
The Tale of a Fairy is a short film imagined, written and directed by Karl Lagerfeld for the 2011/12 Cruise collection, which will be screened at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes on Monday May 9th 2011.
The film stars Anna Mouglalis, Chanel ambassadress, Amanda Harlech, Kristen McMenamy, Freja Beha, Bianca Balti, Baptiste Giabiconi, Brad Koening, Jake Davies, Mark Vanderloo, Oriol Elcacho, Sébastien Jondeau, Seth Kuhlmann, among other friends of the House.
“It is a movie about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling” Karl Lagerfeld, May 2011

In the second of three short films for Magnum Ice Cream, Rachel Bilson depicts an art student who finds inspiration after having a Magnum ice cream bar. Art Class also features Baptsite Giabiconi as an art student and was directed by Karl Lagerfeld. I have to say, the ads are working because every time I watch it I want an ice cream bar (and they are delicious I tried them!).

A month ago we shared the news that Karl Lagerfeld was directing Rachel Bilson in a series of ads for Magnum Ice Cream and two weeks ago we gave you a sneak peek of the preview. Well, here is the first of three ads directed by Karl Lagerfeld and featuring Rachel Bilson for Magnum Ice Cream. “Photo Mood” features Rachel Bilson as an annoyed famous model who finds the pleasure she’s been seeking in the form of a smooth and delicious Magnum ice cream bar.
What do you think? I wonder if Baptiste Giabiconi got inspiration from watching Karl Lagerfeld as a photographer? He’s modeled for Karl and been photographed by him many times. I’m curious!

I’m excited to show the official behind the scenes footage from creative icon Karl Lagerfeld’s short film series starring Rachel Bilson for Magnum ice cream, which will premiere during the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21.
The footage gives an inside look at director Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for the three short films. The shoot took place over three days in Paris, where Mr. Lagerfeld brought his legendary creative prowess behind the camera to direct style setter Rachel Bilson. The series of short films offer American audiences a look into the pleasurable lifestyle Magnum ice cream has cultivated around the world for more than 20 years. The films celebrate the premium indulgence of Magnum ice cream and the attitude that a day without pleasure is a day lost.
The three films are:
· “The Photo Shoot” features Ms. Bilson as a dispirited fashion model who finds the pleasure she’s been seeking in the form of a smooth and delicious Magnum ice cream bar.
· “Ballet” stars Ms. Bilson as a world-renowned ballet dancer who, when unexpectedly faced with an aggressive throng of admirers, savors a moment for herself by enjoying a Magnum bar before greeting her fans.
· In “The Drawing Class,” Ms. Bilson is an art student who indulges in a Magnum ice cream bar and is then inspired to create a beautiful work of art.
Ugh, just watching these is making me want a Magnum ice cream bar! I tried one, they are delicious!!

Last year, Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with Coca Cola Light on an aluminum limited edition soda bottle. For 2011, Uncle Karl has revisited the partnership and has designed three new bottles. All three bottles feature a color scheme of black, white and fuchsia. Lagerfeld also photographed the ad campaign that features Coco Rocha, Heidi Mount and Jeneil Williams. The bottles will be available in June. I’m wondering if Coco Rocha is a huge Diet Coke fan since she was in the first ad campaingn (pictured below).

I just read on WWD that Baptiste Giabiconi, Chanel model and Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, is apparently starting a music career. He’s recording his first album called Trilogy and his first single is already out. What do you think? Should he just stick to modeling?

Two weeks ago we posted about Karl Lagerfeld’s newest Chanel short film, Window World. Now, Chanel has launched a Window World site devoted to the Spring/Summer 2011 Pre Collection looks featured in the short. The site is a virtual rendition of the film – it shows images of Magdalena Frackowiak, Barbara Dvorakova and Baptiste Giabiconi as mannequins without the eerie music from the film. Check out screenshots from the site below, as well as lookbook shots of the Spring/Summer 2011 Pre Collection. If you haven’t seen Window World yet, you can also see it below.
My favorite thing about the collection has to be the red accents – the red shoes with black toe cap, the red quilted bags, and the red wigs. I also am loving the black cuffs with chains and the t-strap top cap heels. The website is also cool and I love how the images move – it makes up for the less than stellar short film.

After a controversial short film for the Paris-Shanghai collection, Karl Lagerfeld skipped doing a fashion film for the Paris-Byzance collection. I guess Lagerfeld couldn’t keep himself from shooting a short film though and what we have now is the release of Window World, Uncle Karl’s latest fashion film for Chanel.
Window World features Magdalena Frackowiak, Barbara Dvorakova and Baptiste Giabiconi as mannequins in a store window with music fit for a suspense movie in the background. If Mannequin and Psycho had a baby it would be Window World. Not Karl’s best work but entertaining nonetheless.
