Chanel celebrity makeup artists and manicurists applied Chanel beauty products to many A-listers last night at the 2013 Academy Awards to get these ladies ready for Oscar night. Here’s a breakdown of how to achieve these looks.
Anne Hathaway
Makeup by Chanel Celebrity Makeup Artist Kate Lee
INSPIRATIE: My inspiration for Annie’s look came from the color of the beautiful delicate pink dress. Annie looked instantly statuesque the moment she put it on and I felt that this dress was worthy of some classical “Movie Star Beauty.” No tricks, just attention to detail, timeless beauty and glamour.
HUIDVERZORGING: Great long wearing foundation begins with proper skincare. Annie’s skin was given a good dose of hydration with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum, followed by Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer.
STICHTING: I wanted to make sure that we still saw the quality and texture of Annie’s skin but make sure that the velvety finish would stay put throughout. I used a combination of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra‐Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to make the skin uniform and add luminosity. Then I used just a little CHANEL Perfection Lumière only where needed. The cheekbones, jaw line, bridge of nose and crest of upper lip were highlighted using Make Up Forever UpLight. To complement the highlights and to carve out the cheekbones, I used Illamasqua Cream Color Pigment in Hollow. Once I had my perfect canvas, I set everything in place with Cle De Peau translucent powder.
BLUSH: The check mere mainly sculpted during the application of the base, highlights and shading color, but to finish the look and add a little flush I lighted dusted just the apples of her cheeks with CHANEL Powder Blush in Star Dust.
EYE SHADOW: I started by priming the lid with Laura Mercier’s Eye Canvas to help keep the shadow in place. The eyes were a beautiful lilac grey shadow blended into a soft almond shape that followed Annie’s socket line. I then traced a black line across the outer two thirds on the lash line and tapered it into a gentle tick.
MASCARA: I always use waterproof mascara for awards ceremonies, especially when my client is a nominee! I curled the lashes and applied one generous coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir from root to tip, boven en onder. Waterproof mascara generally dries faster and helps hold in the curl. I custom-made the lashes to fit Annie’s eye shape and to finish the look.
EYEBROWS: I took my time sculpting the shape. The brows were combed into shape and intensified by using Anastasia’s Brow Wiz Pencil in Brunette, which I then blended using a stiff angled brush. Once I had the shape I wanted, I added a coat of Anastasia’s Brow Gel to hold them in shape.
LIPS: Anne has full and perfectly balanced lips. I wanted to avoid matching the lips to the dress so I chose a shade slightly more intense and then blended it down until I got just the right shade. The lip color was CHANEL Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Sèduisante with just a dab of concealer mixed in to make it one shade lighter. I sent her on her way with a powder puff and her lip color.

Nails by Chanel Celebrity Manicurist Ashlie Johnson
INSPIRATIE: My inspiration for Naomi’s Oscar look was all about strength, unabashed glamour and polish, with a good dose of femininity. We love the Art Deco vibe of the dress, which evoke the Chrysler Building in its statuesque feeling. The dress is strong, curvy and says powerful woman, so I wanted to focus of the power of Naomi’s gorgeous eyes.
HUIDVERZORGING: Her skin was prepped with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum around the perimeter with a mattifying primer in the center. The hydrating serum gives a lift and glow to the high bones and the primer enables long wear of foundation and reduces the need for a lot of powder.
STICHTING: I used CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra‐Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to even the skin and CHANEL Lift Lumière Smoothing and Rejuvenating Eye Contour Concealer around the eye area.
BLUSH: Op de appeltjes van haar wangen, I lighted dusted CHANEL Powder Blush in Pink Explosion for a very feminine flush. I then added Poudre Signée De Chanel Illuminating Powder on the high cheekbones.
EYESHADOW: The eyes were the big focus of this look; this is where I added strength and sultry definition using a combination of CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Gris and Noir Intense. I rimmed the inner rims and the lash line, then blended and softened. I topped the pencil with CHANEL La Ligne de Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo in Noir-Lame. This is a dry liner to ensure hold and add extra black depth. For the final sparkle – that totally harmonizes with the dress – I mixed CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme and Epatant and to give the look its red carpet worthy shine!

LIPS: For a soft rose lip that mimics Naomi’s lipcolor, I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Mademoiselle.

INSPIRATIE: Modern Art Deco
KLEUREN: CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Frenzy for the hands was a modern way to do a nude. It’s a gray hue that complemented the dress perfectly. CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Graphite was a perfect match for her silver sparkly gown and dark gunmetal shoes.

INSPIRATIE: My inspiration for Zoe’s look came from her amazing classic French chic silhouette style dress. I used soft palettes for a natural, sensual, feminine look around her face..

BLUSH: After a light dusting of CHANEL Poudre Signèe de Chanel Illuminating Powder on her high cheekbones, I applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Frivole.
OGEN: Zoe’s eyes were the big focus! I started by applying CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique all over her eyelid and CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme under her eyebrows as a highlighter. On the edges of her eyelid, I used CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes to give the outer part of her eyes depth. On her inner eyelid I carefully applied CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Santal. For a final bit of drama, I finished her eyes with a black liquid liner and CHANEL Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir.
LIPS: I finished with CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Chic for a soft lip color that complements the gray in her dress.
Amy Adams

INSPIRATIE: My inspiration is always a combination of the girl, the dress, the occasion and our feeling the day of the event. Since the gown is a pale slate, I wanted Amy’s face to have subtle color. I thought a palette of plums, taupes and pinks would be perfect for her. This is no specific look, just a stunning overall appearance with focus on her eyes.
HUIDVERZORGING: Her skin was given a good dose of hydration with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum followed by CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Fluid and CHANEL Sublimage La Crème Yeux. I find that by moisturizing well, the foundation melts into the skin rather than drying on top of it. If her skin doesn’t look healthy, you distract from the whole look. CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum protects and helps the skin achieve optimal moisture levels, while CHANEL Sublimage, the most luxurious cream you will ever use, delivers the moisture. This step is just as important, as I want Amy’s skin to be at its best.
STICHTING: I used a combination of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra‐Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 20 Beige on the high planes of the face and then added a little CHANEL Perfection Lumière Long Wear Flawless Fluid Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 through the center of the face to give a velvety complexion. I apply this with a damp sponge so the application can be gently and sheer leaving Amy’s well moisturized skin to breath.
BLUSH: Op de appeltjes van haar wangen, I lightly dusted CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Petale, which is a perfect pink so she looks flush with color, but not overpowered by it. I then added Poudre Signée De Chanel Illuminating Powder on the high cheekbones, a tiny amount on the bridge of the nose and the heart of her lips to add dimension and illumination. The effect is really beautiful and I love that it enhances how skin looks in photographs.
OGEN: Amy’s eyes were the focus today. We thought an ethereal smoky eye using plums and taupes would be perfect match for the dress. I swept her whole lip with the pale pink shade for CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Mystic Eyes. This just gives me a blank canvas and a clean eye to work with but adds just a hint of sheen. Volgende, I lined her inner upper and lower lids with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun I did this first so it would blink away as we continued. Volgende, I lined her upper lash line with the same pencil, smudging it out with a small brush. Over that pencil I swept this beautiful reflective shadow CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Illusoire. This smudged the eye even more, softening yet deepening the color. I swept this out to the corners making sure to blend. Lastly in the very outer corners – right in the lash line – I tapped the deep plum color from CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Raffinement with a flat brush into her lashes darkening the root and the corners of her eyes. Under her lower lash line, from corner to corner, I brushed the taupe color from this quad. Then with a straight flat brush, I ground the muted lavender from this palette into the lower lashes. You’re building the eye out here and each color is important. The end result is subtle drama.
MASCARA: I curled the lashes and added two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. I always use waterproof mascara on so it stays all night. I added a few individual lashes in medium and small to thicken the lashes and add some drama without having to go too dark with the shadow.
LIPS: I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Pygmalion (Available May 2013) on her lips for an easy, effortless hint of pink. For a bit of reflection, I did a light coat of CHANEL Glossimer in Eden (Available May 2013) over it. This adds a bit of glamour without stealing focus.
Jennifer Aniston
Makeup by Chanel Celebrity Makeup Artist Angela Levin
HUIDVERZORGING: We wanted this to be an easy day for Jennifer. She applied her own moisturizer, and I touched it and it was beautifully moisturized so just went on to add foundation.
STICHTING: I used CHANEL Perfection Lumière Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and mixed shades 32 Beige Rose and 70 Beige for a warm look. I set the look with CHANEL Double Perfection Lumière Long-Wear Flawless Sunscreen Powder Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 70 Ambre.
BLUSH: I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Tumulte on the cheeks, which looks bright in the packaging, but gives a gorgeous freshness to the face. For shading around the cheeks and nose, I did something interesting by using two eye shadows! I used the beige-pearl shade from CHANEL Eyeshadow Duo in Taupe-Delicate over the cheekbone and under the brow bone and the other shade around the nose.
EYESHADOW: Op de ogen, I used CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparance, a beautiful gold shade and CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique as a base for Jennifer’s eye liner. I used CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Dunes to shade the eye, and CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Platine, under her browbone.
EYE LINER: I then applied a very black liquid eyeliner, CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir and applied CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique on top of the liner.
MASCARA: After applying CHANEL Nourishing Mascara Base, I then added four coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir for full lashes, and one coat of the mascara to the bottom lashes.
LIPS: I painted Jennifer’s lips with CHANEL Precision Lip Definer Rose Topaz and then layered it with CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Pygmalion (beschikbaar in mei 2013) and topped that with CHANEL Glossimer in Envolee (beschikbaar in mei 2013).
BODY: Tenslotte, I added CHANEL Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base to her shoulders and décolletage.
Halle Berry

INSPIRATIE: My inspiration for Halle Berry’s look came from her structured black gown with silver beaded vertical stripes. I wanted to keep the makeup look tonal and casual with this dress. I focused on punching up the eyes in a soft feminine way and played up her cheeks to balance this striking “Cadillac” of a dress. I wanted her face to stand out but not compete with the dress. Halle presented the James Bond tribute and so that was the theme of her look!
SKIN: To prep Halle’s skin, I gave her skin a good quenching with CHANEL Sublimage La Creme. Then I primed her skin with REVLON PhotoReady Perfecting Primer for a smooth application of foundation. With a foundation brush, I applied REVLON ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup in Caramel on her face and neck lightly to even out skin tone. To warm up her face, I applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Frivole, a warm coral to bring out the brightness of her skin.
OGEN: To bring illumination to the eyes, I prepped with REVLON PhotoReady Primer. To open and softly smoke up her eyes, I rounded them out by blending the red brown shade in the REVLON Eye Shadow palette in Graffiti into the crease. To define and thicken the base of the lashes and to pop the eyes, I drew in a hairline thin liner in the lash line with REVLON ColorStay Eyeliner in Black and extended out slightly past the ends of her lashes. To keep the look softer, instead of black inside the lower lid and in the lower lash line, I used CHANEL Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso. To further soften and bring shimmer to the eyes, I applied REVLON PhotoReady Primer + Eye Shadow in Metropolitan blended out under the lash line. To open her eyes, I applied several coats of mascara in Le Volume de CHANEL in Noir on top and bottom lashes that again defines her eyes without looking heavy.
BROWS: I kept the eyebrows feminine and soft with CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel which is a lighter, blonder brow color, to prevent the look from being harsh or hard feeling.
MASCARA: Ik krulde de wimpers en voegde twee lagen van Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir.
LIPS: To hydrate and smooth the lips I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm. I then shaped and rounded out her lips using CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Praline D’or, lining slightly outside her lip line, and filled in the lips. Volgende, I smoothed a coat of matte Lipstick by REVLON ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Private Viewing.

INSPIRATIE: Kristen’s dress is an ombre rosé colored gown with intricate Swarovski detail. I wanted to create a beautiful rose monochrome look with creamy skin, rose cheeks and rose lips. I even used rose colored shadow under smoky layers of taupe and brown to create a very diffused smoky eye.
SKINCARE: I started by prepping the skin with CHANEL Sublimage La Crème Yeux and CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum to hydrate the skin, layered with CHANEL Sublimage La Crème to give the skin a beautiful dewy glow. I used a sponge to apply Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base to the high planes of the face and under the eyes for a subtle highlighting effect.
STICHTING: I used two shades of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Fresh And Hydrating Cream Compact Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15, and used CHANEL Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer in Beige Claire under the eyes to brighten them.
BLUSH: I applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Tumulte to the apples of the cheekbones and blended back towards the hairline quite low on the cheek to preserve the highlights of the face. I finished by applying a translucent powder all over the face except the tops of the cheekbones.
EYESHADOW: I applied CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Rose Favorite, a rose colored shadow, to the crease of the eye and all the way around the eye, with a soft brush to create a super soft focus pink haze around the eye. I then applied CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Raffinement in smoky layers around the eye and into the pink shadow I had applied before. I used the darkest shade near the outer edge of the eye, boven en onder, to give it shape. I then applied CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Santal to the top lashes and blended it well.
MASCARA: I curled lashes and applied Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir top and bottom.
LIPS: Lips were shaded with CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Rubellite and CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Legende applied with a brush, but then blended slightly with my finger to create a soft focus lip that wasn’t too “done”.
NAILS
INSPIRATIE: Goddess cool
COLOR: CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Emprise on the hands was a perfect match for her pinky nude sparkly gown. To keep her inner rock star cool, and keep it from looking too much like a little girl, we used CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Western Light on her toes.
PREPARATION: I soaked both her hands and feet then used CHANEL Gommage Microperlé Éclat Maximum Radiance Exfoliating Gel, massaged her with CHANEL Body Excellence Nourishing and Rejuvenating Hand Cream, cleansed the nail and applied CHANEL Base Protectrice Protective Base Coat, then two coats of CHANEL color, and finished with CHANEL Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer.
Jessica Chastain
Nails by Christina Aviles
INSPIRATIE: We wanted Jessica’s nails to mirror the color of her gorgeous gown and with a fully beaded gown, the nails needed to also have shimmer and glitz!
NAIL PREP: I massaged Jessica’s hands and cuticles with CHANEL Body Excellence Nourishing and Rejuvenating Hand Cream, so her hands will stay smooth moisturized throughout the evening.
COLORS: I started with one coat of CHANEL Le Vernis in Rose Caché followed by an even coat of CHANEL Le Vernis in Quartz. I then used CHANEL Protective Base Coat, since it’s so good for ensuring even application of colors especially when layering different shades!
ROOD TAPIJT NAIL TRICK: I always apply two thin coats of CHANEL Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer for maximum glam on the red carpet.
