    Chanel Links: Big Giant Update!

Lots of Chanel news the past month that I didn’t get to post for one reason or another but is still post-worthy – check out my round-up of not-to-be-missed Chanel news….

Not everyone can afford Chanel – here’s how to make your own. The Londoner

    coco chanel la pausa foyer

Last August I mentioned that Coco Chanel’s vacation home, La Pausa, was for sale.  Well, it’s been scooped up off the market for an undisclosed amount but the property was listed for about €40 million.  Riviera Times

There has been some controversy about the crystal cuffs shown at the Chanel Fall 2012 show – some say that Chanel ripped off Pamela Love.  I don’t think they did anything intentional but Chanel has refused to produce the cuffs.  Whatever. I don’t think the Pamela Love cuffs are all that original – they’re fancy versions of flea market crystal jewelry (just my 2 cents).  Fashionista

Word on the street is that Chanel has received approval to design a new store on Bond Street in London that will also be the new U.K. headquarters for the brand. You can bet there will be some cool exclusive product and parties when this boutique opens up. Vogue UK

CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne Opening & Eye Palette

    CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

Earlier this month CHANEL feted the opening of its new boutique at 51 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld. Positioned on one of the most prestigious addresses in the world, the 6,500-square-foot boutique will house the unique world of CHANEL and all of Karl Lagerfeld’s creations – Ready-to-Wear, handbags, shoes, costume jewelry and other accessories. Watches and fine jewelry are also showcased.

    CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

Inspired by the refined private apartment of Mademoiselle Chanel at 31 rue Cambon, the store is set over two floors and reflects the luxury, elegance and modernity of CHANEL. The conception of this store was entrusted to architect Peter Marino. With typical verve he has designed an exceptional venue that embodies the aesthetic codes which characterize the brand.

    CHANEL Boutique 51 Avenue Montaigne

The Chanel 51 Avenue Montaigne opening party guests included French actresses Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Joana Preiss, Virginie Ledoyen, Elisa Sednaoui and Anna Mouglalis, CHANEL ambassadress, Chinese actress Zhou Xun, Taïwanese actress Michelle Chen, British actress Kaya Scodelario, Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate and Brazilian actress Laura Neiva as well as the architect Peter Marino turned out to discover the new boutique during the opening cocktail which was followed by a live concert given by the British group Django Django at the Maison Blanche. The boutique looks lovely – I hope to see it the next time in Paris!

OMBRES MATELASSEES 51 MONTAIGNE Eye Shadow Palette

To commemorate the opening of the CHANEL Boutique at 51 Avenue Montaigne, Peter Philips created Ombres Matelassées palette – a gorgeous palette consisting of the following shades: Pear, Pale Gold, Gold, Golden Khaki and Black Night. The two darker shades can be used as eyeliner when applied with a damp brush. The embossed Matelassées pattern of course is inspired by the iconic 2.55 bag. Right now this palette is available in Europe but I’m guessing it should make its way stateside the way the Las Vegas de Chanel collection eventually branched out beyond Las Vegas.

Chanel: The Little Black Jacket Photo Shoot with Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld

“The CHANEL jacket symbolises a timelessly fashionable form of nonchalant feminine elegance: it belongs to every era” – Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel sent a video of a behind-the scenes look at the making of the The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic jacket revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld. Watching this video is like watching the dream team of fashion at work with Peter Philips doing makeup, Carine Roitfeld styling and Karl Lagerfeld photographing. I’ve always wanted a Chanel Little Black Jacket and now I want one even more!

The images for this latest project were shot in Cannes, in the South of France, and then in New York, before finishing up in Paris in Karl Lagerfeld’s studio. Over a hundred models and celebrities have been captured by the designer’s lens. Actors, artists, singers, rock stars – the book’s impressive line-up encompasses all aspects of contemporary culture today including Georgia May Jagger, Carine Roitfeld, Sarah Jessica Parker, Virginie Ledoyen, Akuol de Mabior, Virginie Viard – and they all wear CHANEL’s uniquely timeless and versatile little black jacket in their own special way.

The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, will be available in bookstores beginning Autumn 2012.

Chanel Beauté at the 2012 Academy Awards

Another awards show has come and gone and once more I am in awe at the lack of Chanel couture (or RTW for that matter) on the red carpet.   Chanel Beauté however was on the red carpet and Chanel celebrity makeup and nail artists were on hand to make the leading ladies shine.  Here’s a break down of the products and techniques used…

MICHELLE WILLIAMS ~ MAKEUP BY CHANEL CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST ANGELA LEVIN

MICHELLE WILLIAMS MAKEUP BY CHANEL CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST ANGELA LEVIN

MICHELLE WILLIAMS MAKEUP BY CHANEL CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST ANGELA LEVIN

    INSPIRATION
My inspiration was a flower! When I saw Michelle in her stunning dress, it made me think of a beautiful rose I have in my garden. Like that flower, she looked so gorgeous and delicate, so I decided to use an array of Spring hues!

    PRODUCTS
Skincare: I began by hydrating her skin with a light layer of CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00).

Eye Shadow: Next, I used CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes ($58.00), using half moon strokes on the lids to maintain a round, soft feeling. For an added pop of glamour, I placed a bit of CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Tigerlily ($28.50) on her lids.

Eye Liner: Under the eyes, I used the darkest color, the neutral deep brown with gold flecks shade, from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes ($58.00).

Eye Brows: CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair ($29.00).

Foundation: To further enhance Michelle’s already gorgeous skin, I applied CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Compact ($58.00 – Available March 19 on chanel.com) for a hydrated, flawless, revitalized and radiant look.

Blush: For the cheeks, I applied my favorite new cheek color, Exclusive Creation Blush Horizon de CHANEL ($58.00).

Highlighter: To accentuate the natural contours of Michelle’s face, I lightly added CHANEL Limited Edition Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Jasmin ($45.00) to her cheeks. I also added this to her shoulders for a slight highlight as well.

Mascara: To the top and bottom lashes, I applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30.00).

Lipstick: For Michelle’s bright, purpley-pink lips, I mixed two CHANEL Rouge Coco Shades from CHANEL’s Spring collection: Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a pink coral with Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Destineé, a spring plum (each $32.00).

    INSPIRATION
    Gorgeous in every way!!

    PRODUCTS
Skincare: I started by applying a rich dose of CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00) to a clean face and let it absorb into the face for about 15 minutes.

Foundation: On her eyes and forehead, I then used a light coat of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Compact ($58.00 – Available March 19 on chanel.com).

Blush: For the cheeks I wanted to create a fresh, youthful appearance so I applied Exclusive Creation Blush Horizon de CHANEL ($58.00).

Eye Shadow: On the eyes, I began by applying CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Émerveille ($36.00) to her lids lightly with my fingers. I followed by applying all colors from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Enigma ($58.00). I used the chocolate grey on the outer part of the lid, the violet grey on the eye crease, the pink under the brow bone and the deep plum to frame the eye across the lash lines.

Eye Liner: To further glamorize her eyes, I lined the upper lash line with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir ($28.00).

Mascara: CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30.00).

Lipstick: I finished her look by applying a sumptuous amount of CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Mademoiselle ($32.00) topped with CHANEL Glossimer in Braise ($29.50).

GLENN CLOSE ~ MAKEUP BY CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST CATHY HIGHLAND

GLENN CLOSE MAKEUP BY CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST CATHY HIGHLAND

    INSPIRATION
Timeless beauty was the inspiration for Glenn’s Oscar look. With the unique color of her dress, I wanted Glenn’s face to be fresh, but also have enough pop for the cameras on the red carpet and last all evening through the parties following the live telecast. And yes, since it was the special night of the Academy Awards…we all agreed on pure glamour!

    PRODUCTS
Skincare: The night before Glenn used CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00). Before I applied the makeup, I used CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum (Available April 2012).

Foundation: I used CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 ($45.00). It was set and finished off with CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Translucent 1 ($45.00).

Blush: CHANEL Powder Blush in In Love ($43.00).

Eye Shadow: I covered the lid with the shimmery CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Émerveille ($36.00). I then blended the darker green shadow from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Lilium ($58.00) up to the crease creating a soft, classic smoky eye.

Eye Brows: CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair ($29.00).

Eye Liner: I used CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun ($29.00). I like to emphasize the lash line with a very fine line of black. My personal trick is using a tiny brush and dipping it into the black waterproof mascara for a ‘stay in place’ application for a long day.

Lipstick: Lastly, I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lipshine in Unique ($32.50), a reddish berry pink with gold sparkles.

    INSPIRATION
Classic Hollywood, but with a young and fresh twist to highlight Angelina’s natural beauty.

    PRODUCTS
CHANEL Le Vernis in Tendresse ($26.00) on fingers and toes

    RED CARPET NAIL TIP
It is important to moisturize the hands. I always mix a formula with a special blend of organic natural oil, butter and organic sugar.

    INSPIRATION
The inspiration was just clean and simple like the makeup, it was a very ethereal look due to the dress being clean lines and simple.

    PRODUCTS
CHANEL Protective Base Coat ($25.00) on fingers and toes
CHANEL Extreme Shines Nail Lacquer ($25.00) on fingers and toes

KRISTEN WIIG ~ FINGERS & TOES PAINTED BY CELEBRITY MANICURIST ALICIA TORELLO

    INSPIRATION
We wanted a clean and chic look, but something unexpected and not traditional. We wanted to do something fun and bold and something that contrasted beautifully with her blush-colored dress.

    PRODUCTS
CHANEL Le Vernis in Black Satin ($26.00) on fingers

    RED CARPET NAIL TIP
About a week up to the event it’s good to moisturize the hands and oil the cuticles often. When deciding on a polish for a big night out, you can’t really go wrong with any CHANEL color, each one creates a statement because the polish is so bold and unique even if it’s a natural shade.

All products are available online on Chanel.com.

Rihanna hit the streets with blonde new locks and wearing a vintage Chanel leather cap. Not sure the exact year of the hat but it definitely looks like 80s or early 90s. I’m loving it – what do you think?

Viva Las Vegas! Chanel Hosts Numéros Privés

chanel numeros prive las vegas chanel carnival machine
Chanel is hosting Numéros Privés (“private numbers”), an eight-day invitation-only event/installation housed at the Wynn in Las Vegas.  The event launched on Friday with a soiree and in true Chanel fashion, the company charted private jets to fly in important clients, friends of the brand, and celebrities including the darling Les Fidèles de Chanel.  Entertainment included DJs Alexa Chung and Nick Cohen with a live performance by Imelda May and her band (retro rockabilly – video posted below if you’re not familiar).

Barbara Cirkva, Chanel’s fashion division president stated that the purpose of Numéros Privés is to “surprise and delight people” – and surprise and delight it did. With ten rooms all devoted to the signatures of the brand, the exhibition played on Coco Chanel’s lucky numbers 5, 2.55 and 31. WWD reported:

One room was filled with Chanel Bearbrick dolls and matching wallpaper, another displayed fine jewelry among sculpted topiaries. There was a recreation of Coco’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon, and a digital room that decoded the making of the 2.55 handbag. It had quilted leather walls. But no room was as popular as the one filled with old-school carnival claw games, where mesmerized guests tried to grab little Chanel gift bags with a mechanical arm.

The event also coincides with the store re-opening at the Bellagio and with Chinese New Year when many international clients travel to Las Vegas.

I only have one question…where was MY invitation? It MUST have gotten lost in the mail:)
