In Woody Allen’s latest film, Blue Jasmine, Cate Blanchett is in the title role. Lucky Magazine reports that the costume designer, Suzy Benzinger, stated: “I called up Karl Lagerfeld and, I have to tell you, I was astounded…I sent a note and in two days he shipped out two custom made jackets for Cate Blanchett with the most beautiful note. And I just thought, ‘Oh my god,’ and he just said ‘For Cate, I’d do anything’”.
I wish Karl would say, “For Gabriella, I do anything.” Sigh. I’m still looking forward to seeing Blue Jasmine though – I love Woody’s leading ladies.
Luxury brands are constantly referenced in hip hop but Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld are having a moment right now. Chanel West Coast an LA-based rapper best known for her work on shows with skater Rob Dyrdek has a much hyped track entitled “Karl Lagerfeld.” You can hear a bit of it below and see a glimpse of the behind the scenes action of the video shoot…
Next up, Wiz Khalifa dropped a new tracked called “Old Chanel” – I think he’s referring to Vintage Chanel but maybe “Old” Chanel sounded better with the rest of his rhymes…
Finally Troy Noka just released a track called Coco Chanel…
If there’s anyone that’s lived a charmed life, Sofia Coppola is one of them. As the daughter of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola she’s had access to things most of us can only dream of. Case in point? An internship at Chanel. Here’s what she told British Vogue about her experience:
I was 15 or 16 and a friend of my parents worked there and they take a few girls every summer to do an internship,” said Coppola. “It was so exciting to go to Paris in the Eighties at the height of Chanel. I was in the design studio, so I got to see Karl Lagerfeld doing haute couture sketches for the final shows. It was incredible – he is so creative. I was getting coffee and doing intern stuff, but just to be around him was amazing.
How amazing to watch Karl Lagerfeld sketching haute couture! And what a great time to be there!
