Unofficial Chanel Le Vernis iPhone Cases

There are a lot of back Chanel-inspired iPhone cases out there -you know the ones with all the rhinestones – but I saw these Le Vernis phone cases on Instagram yesterday and my jaw dropped. It’s been a whirlwind of Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Haute Couture coverage but as that’s wrapping up I just wanted to share with you a project I worked on with my other site MISS. The end of October was a bit busy for me because my daughter was celebrating Halloween for the first time with trick or treating and events at school and I took some time to spend with my family. But, Chanel news doesn’t stop coming. Here are some of my favorite Chanel-related items…

Gaspard Ulliel, the face of Bleu de Chanel has been cast as the designer Yves Saint Laurent in a biopic that has started filming.

Karl Lagerfeld sketched a “no smoking” sign but it’s not your typical sign. However, he was not making a statement about unhealthy habits, instead he was noting all the YSL references on many runways and he was stating that you would find a “smoking” – the french term for tuxedo – on his runway. Lagerfeld stated: “We don’t have to do smoking. Hedi Slimane really does it well.” WWD

Last night Kristen Stewart wore Chanel cosmetics to the LA premiere of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

CHANAILS! Miss May 2012 Chanel Manicure, Vintage Gift Wrap & Camellias

MISS is back again with more CHANAILS for their MISS Nails Did 2012 calendar. Nothing says spring like flowers and if you’re going floral – whether on your jeans, kicks or nails – they might as well be Chanel-inspired. Since color is huge for spring, and in particular for 2012, we opted for bright vintage Chanel gift wrap for our background and authentic Chanel camellia brooches to accompany our CHANAILS. Fashion In The Streets: Chanel Sightings in San Francisco & The Alameda Point Antique Faire

I’ve been sitting on these photos for some time, I must admit that I see a lot more Chanel on the streets but I don’t walk around with my camera and/or phone out all the time so most of the time the Chanels just walk on by… But sometimes, I get lucky like I did at the Alameda Point Antique Fair. It’s hard to know what faux or not – some are definitely fake, and some I just don’t know but I like seeing anything Chanel inspired….

Likely real.

Faux, but really cute.

If they’re piled on the floor, I’m guessing they’re fake.

I also saw some gems in San Francisco like the blue purse, metallic ballet flats and the very fake (but very funny) sweat shirt…

KARL Inspired DIY Pearl and Lace Collars

Collars are huge for spring and I was inspired by the KARL by Karl Lagerfeld collection to make some of my own. Starting at over $100 a pop they can get pretty pricey but you can make your own for about $10 each. Be forewarned, I’m short on time and I know everyone doesn’t have or know how to use a sewing machine so I tried to find the easiest way possible to make these collars.

Tools you'll need to make the DIY Lace Collar

DIY Lace Collar Tools:
Collared shirt (I got mine for $3 at a thrift store)
Iron
Scissor
Lace (or fabric of your choosing)
Double-sided Fusible Tape

1. With a scissor cut the collar off the shirt – be sure to not cut off the stand – the back part of the collar that rests against your neck. Try to cut as close to the seam as possible. If you have a sewing machine you can un-stitch the collar off and then sew the seam closed.

2. Using the collar as a pattern, cut the fabric based on the shape of your collar. Be sure to leave extra fabric on the sides where you will wrap fabric around the back of the collar. You don’t have to cover the entire underside of the collar but you can. It you opt not to then try the collar on before you cut the fabric so you are sure of the areas that are visible when worn.

3. Each brand of tape may have different instructions so go by what is listed with the product you choose. According to the tape instructions, apply the tap and fabric to the collar to all of the areas of the collar that are visible when worn.

That’s it!

DIY Lace Collar Tools:
Collared shirt (I got mine for $3 at a thrift store)
Pearls
Scissor
Embellishing Glue

2. If you have lots of time on your hands and are crafty with a needle and thread, the best way to apply the pearls is by sewing each one on individually. If you have no time for that, then just simply apply glue to the collar and then place the pearls on the glue. Go in small sections so the glue doesn’t start drying before you get the pearls on the collar. Let the collar dry according to the glue instructions.

That’s it!

I hope you get inspired to make your own – all you have to do is choose a collar shape that you like and your favorite embellishment (beads? feathers? rhinestones? faux fur? sequins?) and go to town. Have fun getting crafty!
