Chanel Unveils Scorsese-Directed BLEU DE CHANEL Advertising Film

Building on a tradition of partnerships with influential directors, CHANEL gave a free hand to Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese to direct the highly anticipated short advertising film for its new men’s fragrance BLEU DE CHANEL.

Entitled Bleu de Chanel, the film features celebrated French actor and rising international star Gaspard Ulliel playing the role of a young actor whose artistic talent, rebelliousness and luck have recently catapulted him into the public eye, but who refuses to conform to the lifestyle and expectations his newly found fame has forced upon him. As he struggles with new pressures and demands, he encounters his first love who for years supplied him with the passion and turmoil that fueled his work. Faced with a choice, he pushes aside convention to embody the bold character of BLEU DE CHANEL by daring to be unexpected.

A reflection of his deep history with the Rolling Stones, Scorsese chose the song She Said Yeah, a 1965 release from their album December’s Children (And Everybody’s), as the soundtrack for the film.

“Martin Scorsese is a director whom I’ve admired for a long time,” says Gaspard Ulliel. “I see him as one of the great masters of contemporary filmmaking. Throughout the five days of work, he overflowed with energy and enthusiasm and achieved something that truly stands out from other fragrance commercials.”

Created by CHANEL Master Perfumer Jacques Polge, BLEU DE CHANEL is a woody aromatic fragrance for today’s modern man. The provocative fragrance features notes of grapefruit, dry cedar and labdanum.

CHANEL J12 Marine Launch with Laird Hamilton

Over the weekend Chanel invited some fancy-pants people out to Montauk to celebrate the release of the lastest J12 Marine men’s watch.  Laird Hamilton, the new brand ambassador, is a professional surfer and married to professional volley ball player Gabrielle Reece.  “Like CHANEL’s newest brand ambassador, Laird Hamilton, CHANEL has allowed themselves to be swept away by the beauty of the waves, and has incorporated these elements into the design of the J12 Marine, the newest addition to CHANEL’s fine timepiece collection.”

The guests ““…dined on fresh seafood at wooden tables and then gathered around the fire pit for cocktails and smores.”  Can we say jealous?  And how about the surf boards?  I’ve always been to scared to try surfing but a Chanel surf board can easily sway me…

The event looks like it was awesome and though you may not think of Chanel when you think of surfing, Chanel always manages to have that magic touch that makes just about anything seem like it was meant to be paired with Chanel.  My only question is, where was my invitation to this? :)

I just got word that Macy’s will not be carrying Les Khakis de Chanel Nail Collection. The trio of khakis can be purchased on Chanel.com, Chanel boutiques and select Bloomingdale’s, Saks and Nordstroms beginning on September 10th – mark your calendars!

Karl Lagerfeld Hosts Dinner For Soho Boutique Re-Opening

On September 9th, Karl Lagerfeld will jump-start New York Fashion Week with a chic dinner to celebrate the re-opening of the Soho Chanel boutique.  Approximately 300 guests will be in attendance and I’m sure it will be a who’s who of the young, rich and beautiful.  What I would do for an invite!

Elisa Sednaoui Featured in the New Chanel Eyewear Campaign

Chanel recently announced that Italian model Elisa Sednaoui is the face of the new Chanel eyewear campaign.  She’s been seen in dozens of European fashion magazines and earlier this year Karl Lagerfeld shot an editorial with Elisa for Numéro Magazine.  I wonder if that’s how he came to choose her for the eyewear campaign. Sednauoi is wearing the Jewel button sunglasses from the Cruise 2010/11 collection. We’ll probably start seeing these ads run in fashion magazines pretty soon.

I Died and Went to Chanel Heaven: The New Chanel Ultra-Luxe Boutique at The Encore, Las Vegas

I’ve visited Las Vegas twice a year for the last six years. Each time I go, I do the tradeshow dance and though you get to read the fruits of our labor here on M.I.S.S., it seems a lot more glamorous than it actually is . . . until now. Last month, we were invited to review the new Chanel Ultra-Luxe Boutique located between the Hotel Wynn and the Hotel Encore. Outshining everything around it, the new Chanel Ultra-Luxe boutique is the first of its kind, and is considered the “jewel box” of the Chanel empire .


Chanel Ultra-Luxe Boutique – Accessories & Apparel

Designed by Peter Marino, the architect ignored Las Vegas clichés and instead perpetuated the elegance of Chanel’s style with clean lines and simple geometry reminiscent of the 1930s. Not all Chanel boutiques are created equal – and this one is very special. No detail was left untouched – only the finest materials were used in the boutique design from the marble floors to the silk between sheets of glass that divided the rooms. In addition to the usual apparel and accessories you would find at other Chanel Boutiques, this Boutique has an entire section devoted to exotic leather handbags – python and crocodile galore, these handbags are the ultimate luxury.

Many of the bags at the boutique are even more limited than the usual Chanel bags.   Ruby, the sweetest sales associate, showed us handbags that were 1 in 5 (in the country).  I was offered (and did not turn down) an opportunity to try on the most expensive item I’ve ever touched in my entire life – a black crocodile purse with a chain strap made of white gold.  It didn’t stop there . . . the iconic double C’s were made of platinum and encrusted with 334 diamonds (that’s 3.56 carats!).  This gorgeous bag is valued at $235,000 – THAT is the caliber of product they carry at the Ultra-Luxe Boutique!

I could go on and on about all of the amazing products we saw that day, but my mere words can’t describe the beauty, let alone the awe that we were in. Ruby pointed out all the details that made each product unique – there’s a reason it’s called Haute Couture!  From beads that are hand-blown and then hand-sewn on to garments, python boots and feather capes – everything is exquisite and made with the finest quality and workmanship.  If you are ever in Las Vegas, make sure to stop by the Chanel Ultra-Luxe Boutique between the Hotel Wynn and the Hotel Encore, and be sure to ask for Ruby. I Want Candy! Massimo Gammacurta’s Logo Lollipops

Fashion photographer Massimo Gammacurta’s photos are clever and ingenious in their simplicity. His work is extraordinarily beautiful, and no matter what the subject, you can expect a level of sophistication that you rarely find anywhere else. His newest project is called “Sweet Fashion, Lick Your Way To Success,” where he’s borrowed some of the world’s most iconic luxury logos and made them into lolipops! Gammacurta released these during fashion week and made lollipops using the Chanel, Gucci, YSL and Louis Vuitton logos. The lollipops come in flavors such as watermelon, pomegranate, caramel, lilac, wild cherry and green apple. Talk about the ultimate luxury – these would be fleeting, yet utterly decadent treats!

Chanel Segway x2

Picture me rollin’…

Karl Lagerfeld has designed this special edition Segway called The Chanel Segway x2. It’s all black and features quilted leather fenders and handles. The Segway also features a Chanel quilted leather pouch attached to the front handlebars…and check out those tires! No word on how many were made or the price but I’m pretty sure it’s out of a mall cop’s price range. ;)

Chanel has released Les Noir de Chanel, a collection of dark, seductive lip colors fit for a style maven – or vampire.  Inspired by Mlle. Chanel’s love of the color black, the three colors -  Maniac, Hysteria and Obscure – coordinate with their nail colors Rouge Noir, Vendetta and Madness.  I love the depth of color and the personality these shades evoke.  They say that in times of economic crises sales of lip color go up because it’s a more economical way to update a look.  If that’s true, then these colors are perfect now.  You can find the perfect shade for your mood here.

Chanel Liquidated by Zevs

ZEVS, is the conceptual artist behind the Liquidated Chanel Logo (Zurich, 2007) above. He also created a chilling performance art video of the piece using a female back as his canvas.

Also, take a look around ZEVS site while you’re there. It’s a great take on the Google layout.
