Chanel News posted some images of the making of the Cruise 2011/12 look book. I like how they’ve been doing their “behind the scenes” images in black and white – it’s so Chanel. Looks like Karl Lagerfeld shot the campaign – I don’t know the name of the model – someone fill me in if you know. The images below were shot at Studio 7L, Paris by Olivier Saillant. The trio of artists are Sam Mc Knight (hair), Anny Errandonea (nails) and Peter Philips (makeup). I’m drooling over the shoes, chains, brooches and camellias… and I spy a Chanel comet necklace used as an armhole of a sleeve! Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Chanel is gearing up for its Cruise Collection show next week and dropped the trailer of a new film by Karl Lagerfeld called The Tale of a Fairy. Here’s the trailer and what Chanel had to say about it:
The Tale of a Fairy is a short film imagined, written and directed by Karl Lagerfeld for the 2011/12 Cruise collection, which will be screened at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes on Monday May 9th 2011.

“It is a movie about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling” Karl Lagerfeld, May 2011

In the second of three short films for Magnum Ice Cream, Rachel Bilson depicts an art student who finds inspiration after having a Magnum ice cream bar. Art Class also features Baptsite Giabiconi as an art student and was directed by Karl Lagerfeld. I have to say, the ads are working because every time I watch it I want an ice cream bar (and they are delicious I tried them!).

There were many starlets that wore Chanel Beauté on the red carpet at the 2011 Costume Institute Gala – and there wore those that wore haute couture. I’ve always wondered why more actresses didn’t wear Chanel couture on the red carpet and last night the ladies did not disappoint. Chanel was worn by many including Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue and Chanel’s newest pretty young thing, Blake Lively. I think my favorite Chanel ensembles were worn by Janelle Monae and Frida Pinto. My lease favorite was worn by Kirsten Dunst. I’m sure up close the dress is spectacular but it looked a little frumpy on Ms. Dunst. What do you think? Which dress was your favorite?

A month ago we shared the news that Karl Lagerfeld was directing Rachel Bilson in a series of ads for Magnum Ice Cream and two weeks ago we gave you a sneak peek of the preview. Well, here is the first of three ads directed by Karl Lagerfeld and featuring Rachel Bilson for Magnum Ice Cream. “Photo Mood” features Rachel Bilson as an annoyed famous model who finds the pleasure she’s been seeking in the form of a smooth and delicious Magnum ice cream bar.
What do you think? I wonder if Baptiste Giabiconi got inspiration from watching Karl Lagerfeld as a photographer? He’s modeled for Karl and been photographed by him many times. I’m curious!

Karl Lagerfeld is adding yet another job to his ever-growing resume – wine label designer. Word on the street is that Karl Lagerfeld is designing the 2009 label for Rauzan-Ségla to mark the château’s 350th birthday this year. In 1994, Chanel bought Rauzan-Ségla so the rumor isn’t too far fetched. If this project comes to fruition it won’t be the first time Karl Lagerfeld is working with a beverage company: he recently released his second collaboration with Coca Cola Light (or as we like to call it in the U.S. Diet Coke) and he worked with Dom Pérignon for the 1998 vintage.

In his latest project in a perpetual list of collaborations, Karl Lagerfeld has teamed up with publisher Steidl to create a fragrance that is inspired by his love of – books. Everything Uncle Karl touches turns to gold and based on the packaging alone, this project qualifies. The bottle will come enclosed in a hollowed-out book – genius! No word yet on a launch date but I’ll keep you posted as I learn info.

Luxuo is reporting that Karl Lagerfeld is not involved with the scent that Steidl is producing – they stated:
The German designer’s PR director Caroline Fragner has issued a statement saying Lagerfeld is not involved in the creation of new fragrance Paper Passion as was reported last week.
Stating that only beauty giant Coty Prestige develops and distributes any fragrance for the label Karl Lagerfeld, Fragner explained:
“Mr Lagerfeld refutes his implication in the launch of the perfume Paper Passion. This project, of which Mr Steidl told him about, only emanate[s] from the art books’ publisher himself.
Mr Lagerfeld copublishes many books with Mr Steidl but stick[s] to Coty Prestige when it is about his own perfumes’ creations.”
Stories of the paper-inspired perfume were initiated by German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) last week, reporting that Lagerfeld — who is known for his love of books and says he stocks more than 300,000 of them in his famous personal library — was already working on the fragrance with his publisher of choice, Steidl, which distributes most of the designer’s photography books.
Industry insiders are assuming that, while Lagerfeld as a brand is bound to Coty by contract, the designer might be personally involved in Steidl’s project.

A while back Lily Allen let us know that Karl Lagerfeld was designing her wedding dress and it appears that her sisters Teddy and Sarah will also be wearing Chanel.
A source close to Lily – whose wedding dresses is being created by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld – said: “I think the wedding dress itself is going to cost a small fortune. And her sisters, Teddy and Sarah, who are bridesmaids, are getting Chanel dresses too. If there was a budget for the wedding, it’s been completely blown.
I can’t wait to see these wedding photos – I can’t recall the last time a celebrity had a custom Chanel gown made. I wonder if Lily gave Karl complete freedom? Probably not, most brides want to have control of their day. Nonetheless, I’m sure Lily’s gown and her sisters’ dresses will be stunning.

I’m excited to show the official behind the scenes footage from creative icon Karl Lagerfeld’s short film series starring Rachel Bilson for Magnum ice cream, which will premiere during the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21.
The footage gives an inside look at director Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for the three short films. The shoot took place over three days in Paris, where Mr. Lagerfeld brought his legendary creative prowess behind the camera to direct style setter Rachel Bilson. The series of short films offer American audiences a look into the pleasurable lifestyle Magnum ice cream has cultivated around the world for more than 20 years. The films celebrate the premium indulgence of Magnum ice cream and the attitude that a day without pleasure is a day lost.
The three films are:
· “The Photo Shoot” features Ms. Bilson as a dispirited fashion model who finds the pleasure she’s been seeking in the form of a smooth and delicious Magnum ice cream bar.
· “Ballet” stars Ms. Bilson as a world-renowned ballet dancer who, when unexpectedly faced with an aggressive throng of admirers, savors a moment for herself by enjoying a Magnum bar before greeting her fans.
· In “The Drawing Class,” Ms. Bilson is an art student who indulges in a Magnum ice cream bar and is then inspired to create a beautiful work of art.
Ugh, just watching these is making me want a Magnum ice cream bar! I tried one, they are delicious!!
