Karl Lagerfeld Designing Two Wedding Dresses for Lily Allen

lily allen chanel necklaceIt’s a dilemma that every bride faces – will the dress be classic or modern? Lily Allen isn’t immune to the conundrum so she’s having Karl Lagerfeld design two wedding dresses. One dress is an ivory full-length lace gown and the other is a shorter, modern dress. The two dresses are costing the soon-to-be Mrs. Cooper £38,000.

A source close to Allen stated:

In the end, Karl suggested she get one of each and decide on the morning which she’ll wear down the aisle. At the moment it looks as though she will plump for the more classic, vintage gown with a small train for the ceremony, and then change straight after the service into a shorter, tighter number….The latter will be more in keeping for the evening party and will allow her to dance more freely.

It’s a growing trend for brides to get two dresses – one for the ceremony and one for the reception. I can’t wait to see Lily Allen’s dresses. I have to admit, I’m more excited about seeing her dress than I was to see Kate Middleton’s dress!

Lily Allen Is Blowing Her Wedding Budget

lily allen and sister

A while back Lily Allen let us know that Karl Lagerfeld was designing her wedding dress and it appears that her sisters Teddy and Sarah will also be wearing Chanel.

A source close to Lily – whose wedding dresses is being created by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld – said: “I think the wedding dress itself is going to cost a small fortune. And her sisters, Teddy and Sarah, who are bridesmaids, are getting Chanel dresses too. If there was a budget for the wedding, it’s been completely blown.

I can’t wait to see these wedding photos – I can’t recall the last time a celebrity had a custom Chanel gown made. I wonder if Lily gave Karl complete freedom? Probably not, most brides want to have control of their day. Nonetheless, I’m sure Lily’s gown and her sisters’ dresses will be stunning.

Lily Allen to Wear a Chanel Wedding Dress

OOOH! Word on the Web is that Lily Allen will wear a Chanel wedding dress. You may remember that she was the face of the Coco Cocoon collection and sang at the Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear show.  She’s engaged to Sam Cooper and she was in attendance in Paris at the Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012 Ready-to-Wear show. She told WWD: “I’m here to see Karl for my wedding dress.” So exciting! I can not wait to see this!

Blake Lively – The Face of Chanel Mademoiselle Bags

Last month, we heard rumors about Blake Lively taking on the role of brand ambassador for a Chanel handbag line.  We speculated that it may be for the Chanel Coco Cocoon collection with Blake following in the footsteps of Lily Allen and Vanessa Paradis.  Instead, WWD has just reported that Blake Lively is the face of a new line of Chanel handbags – the Mademoiselle bag.

First seen in the Chanel 2010/2011 Cruise show, the Mademoiselle bag is an oblong shaped bag featuring the brand’s signature quilting, chain strap and double-C logo.  Available in an array of colors and fabrics (cloth jersey, lambskin, calfskin, alligator, satin and shagreen), the bag retails for $2,000 – $3,300 for base ranges and over $30,000 for exotic skins.

Karl shot the campaign in Paris at the historic 31 Rue Cambon on the storied Chanel mirrored staircase that Mademoiselle herself would sit and watch her collection shows.  When asked why he chose Blake Lively, Karl stated:  “She’s full of life…She’s a kind of American dream girl…I think she will become a great actress.”

The ads for the new Chanel Mademoiselle bags will begin to surface in April 2011 magazines – I can’t wait to see the campaign!

Vanessa Paradis for Chanel Coco Cocoon

Chanel Coco Cocoon Collection Spring 2010

A few months back it was announced that Vanessa Paradis would replace Lily Allen as the face of the Chanel Coco Cocoon collection.  Paradis is the Chanel “it girl” of the moment and she must have Uncle Karl smitten as she’s snagged the Chanel Coco Rouge & Coco Cocoon campaigns.

The second Chanel Coco Cocoon collection was recently released and chanteuse Vanessa Paradis provides the face and soundtrack for the collection.  The images, shot by Karl Lagerfeld, are beautiful and alluring in soft black and white and feature Paradis lovingly clutching various styles of the Cocoon collection.  The campaign shots and collection photos all play to the tune of Paradis’ “L’Incendie”.

Coco Cocoon features several styles of bags in quilted nylon and lambskin, with some boasting Orylag trim (fancy French rabbit fur).  I love the Coco Cocoon collection because they are updated takes on the iconic Chanel quilting pattern reworked into very modern, practical wearable bags.  These are the types of bags that you can use for weekend travel or for everyday use – you can fit your laptop and then some!  View pictures from the campaign and collection below.

Vanessa Paradis Replaces Lily Allen as the Face of Coco Cocoon

Chanel’s Coco Cocoon collection launched last year with Lily Allen as the face of the campaign.  For the next campaign for the collection, Lagerfeld has chosen to replace Allen with Vanessa Paradis, the French actress that is currently the spokesperson for Chanel’s Rouge Coco lipstick.  Like the other Chanel campaigns, the campaign was shot by Karl Lagerfeld. The images are scheduled to debut in the June issues of magazines.  Paradis also has a long history of working with Chanel and began her partnership with the brand in 1994 when she was featured in an ad campaign for the Coco fragrance.

Chanel recently hosted the Sprig 2010 Ready to Wear collection at the Grand Palais in Paris where the country atmosphere was inspired by Fragonard’s artwork and Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet at Versailles.

Below you’ll find some behind the scenes shots as Lily Allen prepared for her performance at the show, as well as some behind the scenes photos of the Spring 2010 look book photoshoot.

The shaft of wheat pictured above is from Coco Chanel’s apartment and inspired, in part, the Chanel Spring 2010 collection. The shafts of wheat were Mlle. Chanel’s lucky charm, symbolizing “creativity that never ends.” Wheat makes an appearance in all of the rooms of her apartment from a brass bouquet, to a single shaft of wheat painted by Dalí himself just for Coco. Wheat played a large role in the collection from being tucked into the models’ hair to the bride’s bouquet at the close of the show. The wheat was definitely lucky for Chanel this season as it was a gorgeous collection and stunning presentation.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear. Coco Country at 5 O’Clog

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to WearIt was a hoedown at The Grand Palais in Paris with models strutted around a Chanel barn, haystacks and all.  Karl Lagerfeld never disappoints in showmanship and the Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear show was an example of how he can take something as dowdy as country bumpkin and make it très chic.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

Lagerfeld was inspired by Marie Antoinette’s shepherdess phase, as well as citing Coco Chanel’s love for escaping the big city to experience the country. Signature Chanel themes like tweed, lace, and the ubiquitous bags were all there – but with a country twist. Dresses and skirts were short – perfect for frolicking in the fields and the looks were completed with milk maid clogs.

Chanel Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

The beauty was kept simple and natural with hair in messy Bardot-eque twists with shafts of wheat tucked in the up-dos. One of my favorite aspects of the show was the body paint. From the double C’s, to a rosary, models have body paint on writs, necklines and their legs.  And the new nail colours!  It looks like a beigey-taupe color will be popular for Spring.

The highlight of the show was Lily Allen, the face of Chanel’s Coco Cocoon Collection, rising from the ground in a giant bale of hay to perform her country-inspired hit, Not Fair. You can see her perform and see the A-list celebs that were front row (like Rihanna and Prince) in the videos below.

Coco Cocoon Collection Website Launch

Coco Cocoon Collection Featuring Lily Allen

Coco Cocoon Collection Featuring Lily Allen

“True luxury is when something is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.”
-Coco Chanel

A few month’s ago we reported that Lily Allen was the face for a new collection for Chanel – the Coco Cocoon Collection.  The collection launches on October 3rd, and to showcase the items and their versatility, Chanel has launched the official Coco Cocoon Collection website.

Coco Chanel was a master at combining casual and luxurious so the Coco Cocoon collection is something that fits in nicely with Chanel’s original vision.  Made of nylon or lambskin, the collection is called Cocoon because it’s reminiscent of the big down coats we cocoon ourselves in during the winter.  Many of the styles are reversible (thus as beautiful inside as they are out) and feature very subtle branding.  The collection is available in beige, black, chocolate or burgandy – the burgandy is the same legendary shade used for the lining of the famous “2.55″ handbag.  The collection also includes small goods like wallets, cases, pouches and key rings.
