Chanel Beauté at the 2011 SAG Awards

Last night at the SAG Awards, Dianna Agron wore vintage Chanel Haute Couture and four actresses wore Chanel Beauté makeup: Hilary Swank, Nicole Kidman, January Jones and Dianna Agron. Read below to find out each makeup artists inspiration and the tips/tools they used to achieve the gorgeous looks…

DIANNA AGRON/Makeup Artist Kate Lee

Beauty Inspiration:
“Dianna wore a vintage CHANEL Haute Couture dress in navy with a black lace overlay. I wanted to make Dianna appear fresh and up to date.”

Get the Look:
“I started by using CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Ambre to smoke put the inner lid, then gently blended it onto the upper and lower lash line. I worked over the top with CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Cinnamon, a dark burgundy shade. On the inner third of the lid I used grey shimmery tone from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Enigma. I blended and melted the colours away from the socket. Lashes were curled and given one coat of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Brun. I finished off the eye by sculpting Dianna’s brows with Anastasia’s brow pencil and tinted brow gel. I then applied a layer of CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum, followed by Nars oil free primer. I perfected the skin with CHANEL Vitalumiere Moisture-Rich Fluid Makeup. On the apple of the cheek I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Fresque which is a beautiful peach shade that shines pink and adds a really pretty dimension to the cheek. On the lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine.

JANUARY JONES/Makeup Artist Rachel Goodwin

Beauty Inspiration:
“I wanted January’s makeup to have a shimmering, candlelit quality to it. I was inspired by her black and gold lace dress which had a very decadent romantic feeling to it. I used different shades of gilded metallics and reflective textures on her eyes, cheeks, and lips”

Get the Look:
“I lined her eyes with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Gris Scintillant, a sparkling pewter pencil blending all the way into the crease along with a pale gold cream color to her upper lids and inner eyes. Her cheek and brow bones were brushed with Soleil Tan De CHANEL Moisturizing Bronzing Powder for soft radiant highlights. I finished with CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Boy on her lips, a delicate luminous petal pink.”

NICOLE KIDMAN/Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Beauty Inspiration:
“Nicole’s dress at the 2011 SAG Awards reminded me of a sexy super movie star, gorgeousness and simplicity were my inspiration.”

Get the Look:
“First, I prepped Nicole’s skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate. To complement her sexy black dress, I wanted her eyes and lips to stand out. I framed her eyes with a dark liner made from the deepest shade in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Stupendous. To really make her eyes pop, I then applied three coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Monte-Carlo.”

HILARY SWANK/Makeup Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua & Manicurist Tom Bachik

Kara’s Beauty Inspiration:
“Hilary’s look was inspired by 70′s screen goddess, Ursula Andrews. She wore a Versace one shoulder soft champagne toned dress with caramel beaded detail.”

Get the Look:
“Hilary’s eyes were extended out with CHANEL Eye Definer in Brun-Cuivre blended along entire upper lashline and lower lashline, on outer half of eye and into crease to create the more graphic shape of the 60′s/70′s lined eye. I finished off the eyes with CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir and Ardell individual lashes on the outer half of eyes. Her cheeks are warmed up with a peachy tone, CHANEL Powder Blush in Fresque. I kept the lips softly lined with CHANEL Lip Definer in Beige, and moistened with CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Canotier.”

Tom Bachik used CHANEL Nail Colour in Inattendu on Hilary’s nails.

Chanel Beauté at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Last night was the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards Ceremony and the Chanel office has shared some of the celebrity makeup tips – straight from the Chanel makeup artists. Check out details and info on products and how to get the look below.

ANNE HATHAWAY / Makeup Artist Kate Lee

Beauty Inspiration:
“Anne wore a nude rose sequin gown. The dress featured a strong shoulder, so I wanted to make sure the make up was approachable and feminine to allow the dress its full attention.”

Beauty Tip:
“I used CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate to add an intense boost of hydration to the skin. Next I used Nars Oil free pro prime to help the make up to stay put. The foundation was CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup, I love its dewy finish. I used Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting powder in Medium to pop Annie’s cheekbones. On the eyes, I used CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Sand, which is like a toasty rose gold. In the socket I added depth by adding a little taupe shadow. I curled the lashes, applied one soft coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, my go-to for all award shows! Her lips were prepped with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Lip Care, then blotted and given a coat of CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Mademoiselle, and then topped with CHANEL Coco Shine in Bel Ami which gave the rose a violet hue. (Available in April). I tucked the lip color plus the CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder compact inside her purse, and off she went!”

Chanel Announces New Coco Mademoiselle Advertising Campaign

Chanel seems to be on a fragrance ad campaign roll. It seems like every time I post about a new ad campaign, another one is right behind it. Soon after the Scorsese film ad for Bleu de Chanel, Chanel has announced that it’s filming a new Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign featuring the fragrances face, Keira Knightley. Directed by Joe Wright, Chanel continues the tradition of pairing it’s actresses who star in their campaigns with directors the actresses have worked with.*  Knightley and Wright worked together on the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice.

Take a look at the behind the scenes images below.

The old Coco Mademoiselle ad featuring Keira Knightley.

*Previous actress/director pairings:
Chanel No. 5:
Nicole Kidman & Baz Luhrmann in Moulin Rouge
Audrey Tautou & Jean-Pierre Jeunet in Amélie.

Scorsese Directs Chanel’s Men’s Fragrance Ad Starring Gaspard Ulliel

Martin Scorses Directs Chanel Men's Fragrance Ad Starting Gaspard Ulliel

A month ago I reported that Martin Scorsese was spotted at Moto in Brooklyn shooting a new Chanel ad campaign. Word has just surfaced that the ad he was filming was for Chanel’s new men’s fragrance. The ad features French actor Gaspard Ulliel.

Andrea D’Avack, president of Chanel Fragrance and Beauté, stated that “The ads have been shot in New York, the city which is so inherently part of Martin Scorsese’s cinematographic vocabulary.” (WWD)

Chanel has a long history of working with acclaimed film directors from Baz Luhrmann (with muse Nicole Kidman) and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (with mus Audrey Tautou ), both for Chanel No.5 at different times.

Chanel works with movie directors because they bring depth, emotion and what we call in French ‘a supplement of soul,’ or an added dimension,” said D’Avack, pointing to films such as “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull,” and “Goodfellas” as examples of Scorsese’s vision. “In the case of Martin Scorsese, we knew we would definitely have a man’s world full of complexity that is also adrenaline-driven, and of course, amazing images. (WWD)

This is the first men’s ad of its kind that I will see and I’m looking forward to it!  I love Martin Scorsese and I think he’s a wonderful choice to film a men’s fragrance ad.  He’ll be able to capture the essence of “man” without coming off as to macho – can’t wait to see!

Martin Scorsese Films New Chanel Ad in Brooklyn

Martin Scorcese Films Chanel Ad in Brooklyn at Moto

Martin Scorsese Films Chanel Ad in Brooklyn at Moto

The rumors are apparently true.  The Dossier Journal reported today that they saw some lights, camera, action! at Moto in Brooklyn last night. Chanel has a tradition of pairing directors with their muses for ad campaigns;  Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) worked together for Chanel No. 5, as did Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie) with Audrey Tautou for the latest Chanel No. 5 ads.  I wonder if Martin Scorsese will be teamed up with some muses of the past… will it be Jodi Foster (Taxi Driver) or Sharon Stone (Casino)?  Only time will tell, but I cannot wait to see this ad!

Chanel No.5 Commercial Sneak Peek

Chanel N.o 5 Commercial Sneak Peak

Chanel N.o 5 Commercial Sneak Peak

Eighty-eight years ago, on 05.05.21, Gabrielle Chanel launched her first fragrance – Chanel No.5. Today, Chanel No.5 is still the world’s best selling fragrance and, according to Chanel, “a product in the Chanel No. 5 portfolio is sold every six seconds.” Because of this legacy, Chanel No.5’s advertising is always the pinnacle of ad campaigns.

It’s been several years since Baz Luhrmann and Nicole Kidman teamed up for the Chanel No. 5 mini film. As we’ve previously reported, Audrey Tautou will be the face of the new Chanel No. 5 campaign – and very fittingly, since she is also cast as Gabrielle Chanel herself in Coco Avant Chanel. Directing Ms. Tatuou is long-time collaborator Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who directed her in her breakthrough film, “Amélie.”  Tautou admitted that she has refused offers to represent other fragrances, she stated, “I needed to have a connection with the product.”

The full-length Chanel No. 5 film (2.25 minutes) releases on the internet on 05.05.09, but it was also produced in 60, 45 and 30 second versions for television.   The “megaproduction” took 3 weeks to film last May, with the help of a crew of 250.  The commercial weaves a tale of “missed encounters between strangers” and takes us to locales including Paris, Istanbul, and Nice.  The commercial is set to the tune of Billie Holliday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” and ends with the lovers in a tender embrace standing on a Chanel logo mosaic.  Read the full story to see more gorgeous stills from the commercial and see if you can pick up on all the hidden Chanel themes.  I can’t wait to see this commercial.  If it’s anything like the last 2 Chanel commercials (Kidman’s Chanel No.5 and Knightley’s Coco Mademoiselle), then it’s going to be fabulous!

Audrey Tautou: The New Face of Chanel No. 5

audrey tautou
A few months back we reported that Audrey Tautou would be playing the one and only Mlle. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the film adaption of the designer’s life. Today, we just learned that Audrey Tautou is said to also be the face of the upcoming campaign and commercials for the legendary Chanel No.5 fragrance.
chanel no 5
The actress will work with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who directed Audrey in cult classic Amélie. She will follow in the footsteps of actress Nicole Kidman who filmed a commercial and ad campaign for Chanel No. 5 and who worked with director Baz Luhrmann who worked with Ms. Kidman in Moulin Rouge. I LOVED what they did together and I’m really excited to see what the next commercial will be like. You can view the Nicole Kidman Chanel No. 5 commercial here – I never tire of watching it!

I’m really happy with the decision to have Audrey Tautou represent Coco in the film and be the face of the designer’s signature fragrance. Especially, since I was really unhappy with Keira Knightley being cast at the face of the Coco Madamoiselle. fragrance. Though stunningly beautiful, I didn’t think Ms. Knightly embodied the class, elegance and style of Mlle. Chanel. I think the company has made up for this by choosing to work with Mlle. Tautou. What do you think?

Coco Mademoiselle – The Film

coco mademoiselle
You may have noticed that the Coco Mademoiselle campaign that once featured a young Kate Moss has been recently revamped with the beautiful Keira Knightley as the new face of the fragrance. Based off of the success of the Nicole Kidman Chanel No. 5 film, Chanel has created another film for the Coco Mademoiselle perfume – all filmed in Coco Chanel’s Paris apartment at 31 Rue Cambon. You can view the film and get an inside look into the infamous apartment here.
