Chanel’s Upcoming Show Locations: Deauville Resort 2013-14 and Scotland Pre-Fall 2013

In 1913, Chanel opened her boutique in the French resort town of Deauville. To commemorate the 100th anniversary, Chanel will host the upcoming Chanel Resort 2014 collection in Deauville. Karl Lagerfeld told WWD: “My idea is to hire a train, have dinner on the train, do the show in a ballroom and go back at night,” he said. (WWD) What a wonderful way to commemorate the anniversary!

Chanel has also announced that the next Métiers d’Art show will take place in December at a secret location in Edinburgh, Scotland. (Vogue UK) A few months ago I wrote about how Rosehall, an estate that Coco Chanel shared with the Duke of Westminster that was being converted into a hotel. When I first heard that the Métiers d’Art show was taking place in Scotland my first thought was that it would take place at Rosehall. Alas, the show is taking place in Edinburgh and I can only imagine that it’s because Rosehall is in the countryside in Northern Scotland. I would be surprised though if having the show in Scotland was not influenced at all by the time she spent there with the Duke of Westminster.

Chanel sent images of Karl Lagerfeld photographing Stef van der Laan for the Chanel Spring Summer 2013 Press Kit.  I love seeing candid photos of everyone behind-the-scenes at work and it’s a great way to get a glimpse of the process.  You can also catch some details of the collection in the close ups – all photos by Olivier Saillant.

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Show Beauty

Pearls played a huge part in the Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear so it’s no surprise that the makeup was luminous and iridescent like pearls. I loved the large pearls in the models’ hair – very similar to the pearls from the Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection only larger. To learn how to make similar pins, check out my post on DIY Chanel-Inspired pearl hairpins.

Usually the first thing I look for is the new Le Vernis but all the images I could find looked like the models were just wearing a clear top coat or a traditional French manicure. We learn below that there is a new color that was used – not sure what Eastern Light looks like but I’ll keep you posted!

Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks:

Skin prepared with HYDRA BEAUTY SERUM Hydration Protection Radiance

    The Complexion
VITALUMIERE Moisture-Rich Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Accessories

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Details

You’d think after almost thirty years at Chanel that we’ve seen all of Karl Lagerfeld’s tricks yet each season he amazes me. Like the apparel, Karl stepped away from signature Chanel pieces like cuffs and quilted 2.55 purses. Instead we saw enlarged pearls either along in a bracelet or in clusters around the wrists and necks of the models. Many of the purses were angular and some even looked like Lego’s (in shape and color). The spectacular piece that has the internet going nuts is the hula hoop beach bag – very practical in its impracticality. Karl explained in an interview that you can stand the bag in the sand and hang things over the top to dry. But while everyone has been eyeing that bag, I’ve been eyeing the sunglasses the model was wearing with that bag. On top of the left lense of the sunglasses is a mini Coco figure. How fun! I cannot wait to see these glasses in person they are amazing! See more details below…

Karl Lagerfeld has had impressive sets each season and when you think that you’ve seen it all, he brings wind turbines and solar panels (as the flooring) to the Grand Palais in Paris. Inspired by light and air, these themes were evident in the volume (big rounded shoulders juxtaposed with cropped bolero jackets) and textures of the clothing (chiffon and mesh).

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Apparel wise, this was one of my favorite apparel collections I’ve seen in a long time. It’s interesting because Karl Lagerfeld stripped away many of the Chanel signatures like the chains, the buttons and the braid trim yet the collection was quintessentially Chanel. Instead, Karl Lagerfeld focused on Coco Chanel’s iconic pearls (and a bit of matelasse for good measure). He made pearls modern by enlarging them and grouping them in large clusters. I especially loved the large pearls on the clothing – especially that denim dress! Lagerfeld closed the collection with spring-appropriate dressed with floral appliques made from plastic petals.

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Collection

I loved this collection and can’t wait for some of the accessories to hit shelves. The collection looks so grand set amongst the wind turbines it must have looked so amazing in person!

Karl Lagerfeld Interview – Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 RTW

Here’s Karl Lagerfeld on the Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear. As is customary the interview is full of Karlisms. He may say some things that are out of line sometimes but I love this man. His talents are limitless and yet he is still so humble – he leaves it up to us to determine whether the clothing is chic. Uncle Karl, of course it is!

    Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Video

Yesterday Chanel presented its Spring-Summer 2013 ready-to-wear collection at the Grand Palais in Paris. Models walked on solar panels as they made their way around wind turbines to the tunes of the Chromatics. I’m working on the collection reviews and formatting images but in the mean time I thought I would start off by sharing some videos Chanel sent over for your viewing pleasure.

First up we have the video of the Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear runway presentation…
