Chanel Announces New Chanel Nº5 Campaign

chanel no5 marilyn monroe

Chanel Nº5 has long been associated with Marilyn Monroe, and now the new Chanel Nº5 campaign inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s infamous quote will begin this fall in print and on television.  Here’s what Chanel had to say…

FROM LEGEND TO TRUTH THE STORY OF A FAMOUS QUOTE…
Once upon a time there was the most desirable woman of the 20th century…
Marilyn Monroe – the icon with a fresh sensuality – was the very essence of femininity. When she adopted CHANEL N°5, did she know what Mademoiselle Chanel had said of the bold fragrance back in 1921 : “I want a woman’s fragrance that smells like a woman” ?
Back then, the legend that this free and passionate woman wore nothing to bed but a few drops of CHANEL N°5 rocked the world. Her candid declaration of love for the quintessential feminine fragrance was there in black and white, in an article published on August 7, 1952 that accompanied her first cover of Life Magazine: “Marilyn, what do you wear to bed? So I said I only wear CHANEL N°5.”
Today, that legend has become a reality. While perusing the archives on the star, the House of CHANEL discovered an unreleased recording capturing the spontaneous ambassadress’ original words.
Flashback on the soundtrack : in 1960, Georges Belmont, editor-in-chief of Marie-Claire magazine *, interviewed the star of the film “Let’s Make Love” by Georges Cukor. On the spur of the moment, Marilyn confirmed the sincerity of her love for N°5: “You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A nightgown?’ So I said, ‘CHANEL N°5’, because it’s the truth… And yet, I don’t want to say ‘nude’. But it’s the truth !”
Vibrant, innocent and free, her voice is part of the universal collective unconscious. A stirring testimony. The height of seduction. The height of emotion.
With this declaration, and the photo by Ed Feingersh ** showing her with a bottle of N°5 nestled in her décolleté, she definitively established N°5 as the fragrance of timeless femininity…

Video: Chanel Fall 2013 Film “Women Only” by Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld has once again made a fashion film — “Women Only” — to launch the most recent collection soon to hit boutiques, the Chanel Fall-Winter 2013/14 pre-collection. He cleverly uses his previous film “Once Upon a Time”, featuring Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel, as the backdrop for “Women Only”. Karl chose the obscurity of a Parisian cinema as the set and we see models stroll in – individually and in pairs – all wearing head to to Chanel.

I think “Women Only” is one of Karl’s best fashion films – it’s just another medium for us to see the gorgeous Chanel creations in a different light – rather than just staring at stills. “Women Only” does a beautiful job of highlighting the Chanel collection – I’m convinced, I want it all!

Title: “Brid”

Chanel Cruise 2013/2014 Collection

Yesterday Chanel presented is Cruise 2014 collection in Dempsey Hill, Singapore. The sweltering, year-round heat of the small island state makes it feel as if you are on permanent vacation, making it the perfect locale for a resort collection presentation.

The festivities began the night before, on Wednesday night when Chanel screened the premiere of “Once Upon a Time” in the courtyard of the historic Raffles Hotel. The next day, Chanelphiles were greeted with one of my favorite resort collections that I’ve seen.

My absolute favorite look was the first look – one that you saw Keira Knightley wearing as Coco Chanel in “Once Upon a Time” – because it’s essentially a replica of a look that Coco Chanel herself wore. The jersey ensemble was one of her first apparel creations and she was pictured wearing the same look in Deauville.

Chanel Cruise 2014 Collection

What I loved about this collection was the simplicity and how Karl Lagerfeld really stayed true to the codes that Coco Chanel established. The palette was all black, white, beige and navy/denim with no other color in sight (which I loved by the way!). The models were draped in pearls and most wore some variation of a shoe with a toe-cap. The long side-swept bangs and shock of bright blue eye-makeup gave the timeless looks a bit of edge.

Check out the full collection for yourself below – remember to click on the first image and a slideshow will open up that you can click through.

Video: “Once Upon A Time” Trailer with Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel

The internet has been abuzz with the news that Karl Lagerfeld chose Keira Knightley to play Coco Chanel in an upcoming short fashion film and the trailer is now here! Entitled “Once Upon A Time” the short film features Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel as a young designer at her first boutique in Deauville, France. French film actress Clotilde Hesme is also in “Once Upon A Time” and I’m guessing she plays Coco Chanel’s aunt Adrienne.

The full film will be posted on http://www.chanel-news.com on May 8th at the same time as its premiere in Singapore, the destination chosen by Karl Lagerfeld for his upcoming Cruise fashion show.
