Chanel’s Espace Parfum in Bloomingdale’s NYC

While I was in New York, I stopped by Chanel’s Espace Parfum in Bloomingdale’s. The fragrance bar is as beautiful in person as it is in photos and is the only place outside of Chanel boutiques where you can find Les Exclusifs and other limited distribution scents. If you make an appointment, you can meet with a Chanel fragrance specialist who will walk you through all of the Chanel scents.

I wasn’t in town long enough to meet a fragrance specialist but I will definitely make an appointment the next time I’m in New York. If you are in NY or visit NY you should make an appointment to learn about all of the Chanel scents.

It’s Official – Brad Pitt Named the New Face of Chanel N°5

Rumors were spreading like wild fire yesterday across the internet after E! released an unconfirmed story that Brad Pitt was the new face of Chanel N°5.  This morning I woke up to an email from Chanel making it official:  “CHANEL has selected world renowned actor Brad Pitt to be the face of the upcoming advertising campaign  for CHANEL N°5.”

It’s the first time that I can recall that a man has been selected as the face of a woman’s fragrance.  Perhaps Chanel will tell the story from the man’s perspective – what he feels about a woman that wears CHANEL N°5?  I’m excited to see how Chanel will approach this – I’m sure whatever they decide to do it will be creative and ground-breaking.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel: Gardénia

chanel gardeniaOne of my favorite scents from Les Exclusifs de Chanel is Gardénia.  I’ve been waiting for the right moment to get it and I think that the light, fresh scent is perfect for spring and summer.  I tend to stay away from heavier scents once the weather gets warmer and Gardénia’s light floral scent is lovely in the hotter months.  Created by Master Perfumer Ernest Beaux in 1925 (also the creator of Chanel N°5), Chanel Gardénia is an ode to the camellia, Mademoiselle Chanel’s favorite flower. Gardénia is definitely on my shopping list this spring.

Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême Ad Campaign

Chanel has linked up with surfer Danny Fuller and Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow for the Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême ad campaign.  The stills and film are in black and white and feature Danny Fuller doing what he does best.  I especially love the male voice over saying the name of the fragrance – very sexy.  I might have to get this for my husband.

The Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême will officially begin to run in April, but Chanel dropped some sneak peeks today. On choosing to work with Kathryn Bigelow, Christine Dagousset, executive vice president of fragrance and beauté of Chanel stated:

Kathryn Bigelow has an amazing vision and ability to direct action-filled moments…In addition to ‘The Hurt Locker,’ she also directed the surf film ‘Point Break.’ She was the best person to direct this type of campaign, especially because of her affinity for the sport of surfing. Because Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême is the extreme version of the classic Allure Homme, the new concentration was meant to be more edgy, avant-garde and take more risks. This campaign does, as well. (WWD).

Chanel nose Jacques Polge created the new scent which has notes of mint, clary sage, black pepper from Madagascar, tonka bean and sandalwood.  Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême is available in two sizes: 1.7 oz. for $62 and 3.4 oz. for $84.

“Red Flag” Chanel Perfume Parody on SNL

I’m a relatively new mother and like all new mother’s I’m sleep deprived. That means that my old lifestyle of staying up late and going out or catching an episode of SNL is long-gone. So I will admit that I’m a few months late on this but it’s funny nonetheless. SNL did a parody of Chanel fragrance commercials with a perfume called “Red Flag”. It’s pretty funny – Chanel ads are lovely but you have to keep things in perspective and have a sense of humor about them, no?

In June I posted about a limited-edition set of Chanel books published by Assouline complete with a quilted leather Chanel slipcase.  Assouline is releasing another limited-edition set of Chanel books – in an edition of 30 – but this time the slipcase is a Chanel tweed.  The set with Chanel tweed slipcase will retail for $2,500 each and will be sold at Assouline boutiques and website, in addition to being included in the Neiman Marcus’ Christmas selection.  What a gorgeous addition to a Chanel book collection, no?  At that price though, I think I’d rather have a Boy bag or some jewelry.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel JERSEY Out Now

Les Exclusifs de Chanel JerseyEarlier this summer, Chanel announced that they would be introducing two new scents this fall:  Chanel N°19 Poudré and Jersey, a new addition to Les Exlcusifs de Chanel.  I love the Exclusifs de Chanel collection because the premise of the collection is highlighting rare fragrances created by the House of Chanel.  Some of the fragrances are old fragrances that have been revived, while others are new creations.  The new creations are named after places and things that had a large impact on Coco Chanel’s life or on her design such as Coromandel for her beloved laquered screens, Beige for one of her favorite colors and now Jersey.

Jersey is significant because it is the first fabric she worked with in her apparel designs.  Though many of us live in jersey today, back when Chanel began designing apparel (early 20th century – WWI) jersey was only used for men’s undergarments.  This was just one of the revolutionary changes that Chanel made to women’s fashion as jersey is comfortable, movable and doesn’t require corsets.  Chanel’s use of Jersey was the second step toward freeing of women from the shackles of fashion (the first being freeing their heads from enormous overly embellished hats!).

Here is how Chanel describes the scent:

As light and liberating as the modern fabric for which it was named — daringly appropriated from menswear by Coco Chanel for women’s fashions — JERSEY is the new fragrance masterpiece from Chanel Master Perfumer Jacques Polge. An inspired composition, JERSEY is evocative of a meadow lush with lavender — an essence previously worn only by men. A tender trail of Vanilla and Musk brings femininity to the forefront, and a rare, sophisticated new scent is born.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel are available only in Chanel boutiques online at Chanel.com.  I’m going to the San Francisco Chanel boutique this weekend to test out Jersey – I can’t wait to experience it.  Right now I’m favoring Beige as my daily scent but I’ve been considering adding Gardenia to the mix – and now maybe Jersey.
