Chanel Numéros Privés – Hong Kong Exhibit

chanel hong kong Numéros Privés

The House of Chanel lies on the foundations that Gabrielle Chanel set and one of the pillars of her house is the influence of numbers. Her lucky number 5 shows up in the world-renowned perfume, as well as the dates of her fashion shows, releases and the 2.55 bag.

In Hong Kong at the Museum of Medical Sciences, Chanel hosted Numéros Privés an exhibit highlighting the importance of numbers in the world of Chanel. Attendees were taken into different worlds as they entered different rooms of the exhibit – one devoted to Chanel N°5, one a replica of Karl Lagerfeld’s studio. As they passed they interacted with other well-known Chanel icons such as pearls and camellias.   I wish I could have seen this exhibit for myself! And what I would do for one of the Chanel dolls!!

Chanel Adds Barrie Knitwear to Its Portfolio

Scottish cashmere mill Barrie Knitwear was acquired by Chanel after Barrie’s parent company Dawson International collapsed. In a long tradition of rescuing ateliers through its Paraffection program, Chanel is a protector of fashion craftsmanship and traditions.

CHANEL’s acquisition of Barrie Knitwear in Hawick secures the jobs of all 176 employees and safeguards a historic brand known for the manufacture of high quality cashmere for some of the world’s most prestigious couture houses, department stores and private label outlets.

Bruno Pavlovsky, CHANEL’s Fashion President, said:

The acquisition of Barrie business by CHANEL is all the more natural as the factory has worked with us for more than 25 years, producing cashmere knitwear including CHANEL’s iconic two-tone cashmere cardigans. Through this acquisition, we reaffirm our commitment to traditional expertise and craftsmanship, and our wish to safeguard their future and support their development.

Blair Nimmo, head of restructuring at KPMG in Scotland and joint administrator of Dawson International Trading Ltd, said:

With the sale to CHANEL, we believe we have secured a sustainable future for a business which is of both historical significance to the textile industry and of local importance as a major employer in the Scottish Borders. We would like to thank the staff, customers and suppliers for their patience, loyalty and understanding as we worked towards achieving this sale.

The current management will continue to manage the company, with Jim Carrie as Managing Director and Clive Brown as Sales Director. Barrie will pursue its partnerships with all major luxury brands, with no exclusivity, and grow the presence of its own brands throughout the world.

Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Show Beauty

Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Show Beauty

Pearls played a huge part in the Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear so it’s no surprise that the makeup was luminous and iridescent like pearls. I loved the large pearls in the models’ hair – very similar to the pearls from the Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection only larger. To learn how to make similar pins, check out my post on DIY Chanel-Inspired pearl hairpins.

Usually the first thing I look for is the new Le Vernis but all the images I could find looked like the models were just wearing a clear top coat or a traditional French manicure. We learn below that there is a new color that was used – not sure what Eastern Light looks like but I’ll keep you posted!

Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks:

Skin prepared with HYDRA BEAUTY SERUM Hydration Protection Radiance

The Complexion
VITALUMIERE Moisture-Rich Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15
ECLAT LUMIERE Highlighting Face Pen

The Eyes
EXCLUSIVE CREATION ILLUSION D’OMBRE Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Platine Précieux – “Souffle de Liberté” Collection (Available at specific point of sales in March 2013)
STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF Longlasting Eyeliner in Ebène
LE CRAYON KHOL Intense Eye Pencil in Graphite
CRAYON SOURCILS Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil
RECOURBE CILS DE CHANEL Precision Eyelash Curler

The Cheeks

The Lips
ROUGE ALLURE Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Gracile

The Nails

Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Accessories

Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear Details

You’d think after almost thirty years at Chanel that we’ve seen all of Karl Lagerfeld’s tricks yet each season he amazes me. Like the apparel, Karl stepped away from signature Chanel pieces like cuffs and quilted 2.55 purses. Instead we saw enlarged pearls either along in a bracelet or in clusters around the wrists and necks of the models. Many of the purses were angular and some even looked like Lego’s (in shape and color). The spectacular piece that has the internet going nuts is the hula hoop beach bag – very practical in its impracticality. Karl explained in an interview that you can stand the bag in the sand and hang things over the top to dry. But while everyone has been eyeing that bag, I’ve been eyeing the sunglasses the model was wearing with that bag. On top of the left lense of the sunglasses is a mini Coco figure. How fun! I cannot wait to see these glasses in person they are amazing! See more details below…
